Ate here with family and friends in July 2012 and had a simply fantastic meal. We went for the tasting menu, choosing our own (plentiful) wines, and some courses (notably the cheese fondant element of the cheese course) contained simply great food. An interesting varied wine list and a comfortable though not too formal dining room made for an excellent evening.

During a 2 night stay we had the Black and Fuchsia room as my wife loves the colour scheme, super king size bed & huge bathroom. The 24 hour complimentary tea & coffee on call is a nice touch I have not seen anywhere else. We experienced both of the new restaurants. On the first night we opted for the classics, Lobster Caesar salad, & fish & chips. Wow even the simplest food is done to an amazing standard. Very good value and great service. Second night in Ingrams, beautiful room, pressed white table cloths, fresh flowers, light, and clean. We enjoyed a pre dinner g&t in the separate lounge on big comfy leather sofas while we look over the menus, as we have done the tasting menu not so long ago we went for the 3 course. The 3 course menu when eating in Ingrams is in fact 5 courses as the Chef offers a pre starter and pre dessert. Fresh breads arrived first, along with a beautiful New Zealand Syrah. Smoked bacon & smoked potato espuma, then my wife’s favorite simply called cheese & pickle, a warm fondant, goats milk ice-cream in a beetroot cannelloni, and truffle rolled goats cheese . I had the scallop, so much flavour, and beautiful presentation. Main was the rib of beef to share served on a thick wooden carving block, medium rare; you will be hard pressed to find a piece of rib with more flavour. Everything you need with steak: chips, peppercorn sauce and roasted tomatoes. They even left the bone on the carving block, which my wife would not let me pick up and eat. Pre dessert was a nougatine rolled in pistachio powder. Clean and fresh. But this was just the build up to the dessert. A chocolate & raspberry wonder of different flavours and textures. I had cheese. Hard to choose from the great list so I let the waiter pick 4 of his favourites. The cheese was served with truffled honey, chutneys, port jelly, celery, and homemade biscuits & breads. We retired to the lounge for a coffee and brandy. If you like your whisky’s and brandy’s then I recommend having a good look at what is behind the bar. The staff were great, attentive but subtle and very knowledgeful.
We love The Bildeston Crown and find it hard to compare it to anywhere else. We will be back as soon as we can. We chatted to the staff when we checked out and enquired about Christmas or New Year. They and doing some good packages on New Year.
There are others on here that have visited and been very picky and negative about various things at The Bildeston Crown. Pay no attention. Try it for yourself.

Room Tip: All of the room are amazing. Take advantage of the complimentary tea & coffee on call 24/7

We have eaten at the Bildeston Crown on many occasions but never stayed 'til now. I wanted to do something on my actual birthday but it had to be something which would prize my husband away from his work. So the Taster menu with wine and an overnight stay was deemed a suitable celebration.
The check in was friendly and the room ,one of the mid price ones, lovely. We made use of the complementary tea and coffee service and went down for dinner at 7.45. The staff paced the courses but when the second cheese course arrived and more cutlery I balked at the chocolate dessert and nibbled at the main dessert. The white port at the start, 6 glasses [small in case you think I am a lush]of white and red were very good but by the end lost on me . I did enjoy the red dessert wine at the end . The food was lovely especially the duck course. I will be back but will only choose the Select or Classics menu in future. For me if we had only had the 1 dessert after the first cheese course that would be fine . I would still appreciate the outstanding level of cooking .
Sleep was difficult due to indigestion and the heat but the bed was comfortable. breakfast fine but still full so could not do justice to it all. Loved the decor upstairs in the hall and rooms.

Room Tip: Pay for larger room you get really big bed.

As a group of 14 we had to book and pre-order from a set menu - and the management wanted a £25 surcharge 'for the room' which we were unhappy about. The private room was clean and well presented and the rest of the venue also looked cared for (there are indoor and outdoor areas, tables and sofas).

I had a small (size of a large stamp) piece of salmon to start, then very tasty roast beef. The dessert really was the best part of the meal - a delicious fruity trifle. Friends said that the lamb was tender and tasty, the lobster pie well worth ordering and the choccy dessert the best thing on the menu!

The kitchen must have taken delivery of a huge amount of celery as it seemed to be in everything. Sadly, the roast potatoes served with the beef were dry inside, quite floury. Nice big Yorkshire pud, though.

The service was somewhat hit and miss. The young table staff were great - well-groomed and prompt to bring drinks/condiments when requested (though we did have to fetch the staff from the corridor on one occasion). We ordered white wine to accommpany the starters - but it didn't arrive until after we'd finished them ( agood 12 to 15 minutes), despite us asking twice. The manager who brought the wine was perceived by the group as being slightly aggressive in his tone, saying at one point 'Oh I give up!' and placing the bottle ever-so-slightly too-firmly on the table. It was in fact us, his customers, who had given up on ever getting the wine!

So, would I return? Probably not for food but maybe for a drink and sit down if I was passing through the sleepy Suffolk countryside.

Given the price (£25 for 3 courses, £20 for 2) the food represents good value as it was generally tasty and presented well.

Room Tip: I didn't stay overnight.
