Our 3-hour energetic tour (in both English and Catalan, as another couple was from the area) with Josep was very educational and a great introduction to Priorat terroir and wines. We spent over an hour in the vineyard, much of which was driving through gravel roads (note, if you are very sensitive to motion sickness, you might want to mention it before you go, as the ride can get quite bumpy), as well as smelling the plants that give some of the subtle flavors to the wines. Josep discussed how they use grass in their vineyards in order to help retain moisture and keep the vineyard balanced and stable, as well as utilizing mustard plant as a cover crop between rows. The winery follows biodynamic principles.

The tasting was done in an excellent setting at the winery, and some small bites were provided with the wines. The wines were kept fresh in a Coravin-type temperature controlled system that holds 4 bottles (uses argon to replace the volume of wine that was poured), so the wines were very fresh even though they mostly were not just-opened bottles. Each of the wines were excellent, and if we had more room to ship wine back, we would have purchased more than we did.

I highly recommend the vineyard tour and tasting – the price is very reasonable, especially considering the high quality of wines you taste. There was no pressure to purchase, and no pretense or snootiness. Rather delightfully, it was just an energetic and passionate individual who was a lot of fun to talk with and learn from.

I have been visiting wineries around the world for more than 30 years but have never had a tour better than Clos Mogador. Josep is a fount of knowledge about all aspects of viticulture and winemaking. He is excellent at describing the details that make the wines of Priorat unique. Best of all, he shares his knowledge in a easy to understand, fun way that people not that “into wine” can appreciate. The tasting is conducted in a very good way that avoids a heavy “sell” aspect, letting the wines speak for themselves.
If you only have time for one tour Clos Mogador should be at the top of your list.

Great wines are made here. The tour is great as well and done in a very professional way. As we came with small kids it was nice they have papers and coulor markers so they could enjoy themselves. The host even spoke Dutch which we hardly ever see.

Booking was easy to do by the website and we got the time for the visit as we wanted to have.

Our guide Josip was promptly on time and the whole tour was really well planned. The guide was inspiring and responded all our questions. We all had a feeling that he really wanted to serve us during the tour. In the wineyards we had stops and we learned how the soil and different plants affect to the wine. The tasting was incredibly well set up. We enjoyed our time in Clos Mogador!

We enjoyed a very informative 4 hour tour. We have done many winery visits but this one was the most interesting and informative. Needless to say that all there wines are just great. Every penny worthwhile of the EUR 35 tour fee.
