“Perfect.”
Reviewed 4 March 2012

This place is so delicious that we ate there twice during our stay. The fish is extremely fresh and the Barbecue chicken Mofongo with mashed garlic plantains is the stuff dreams are made of.

“Well worth the trip”
Reviewed 3 March 2012

La Estacion is a great choice if you're torn between the traditional Puerto Rican restaurants and the homogenized over-priced hotel dining spots. It has a limited menu ... a good thing since it underlines the management's contention that everything is freshly made. It is not cheap but the portions are so generous that you'll probably walk away with lunch for the next day.

A must is the whole fresh fish cooked (as are most entrees) over a charcoal grill. It is quite possibly the best fish I have ever eaten at a restaurant. Ribs (the huge meaty ones ... not baby backs) are excellent and beautifully spiced. It is a great chnage from over-sauced ribs that seem to predominate elsewhere. In fact, the deft use of spices and lighter sauces in all their dishes is one of the restaurant's strongest points.

Mofungo is excellent, as well, but very filling.

Among the starters, the pinchos (Puerto Rican shish-kabobs) are good, although the chicken was a bit dry on one occasion. A much better choice is the platter of chicken wings, with a sweet sauce. But ... it's best to share. Given the size of the entrees, a whole appetizer is just overwhelming.

Service is friendly but can be slow. Hey, it's the tropics. Relax, order another Medalla and enjoy a little conversation. If you want fast food ... there are plenty of other options in the area!

One more point: make reservations, especially if you have a party of more than two. Sometimes there can be a two-hour wait for a table otherwise. And most of the tables are outdoors so bring a sweater on a cool night and it wouldn't hurt to dab on a little mosquito repellent.

“Whats not to like?”
Reviewed 3 March 2012

I'm not in habit of writing reviews, I guess mostly because we have a little restaurant too. Not that owners don't appreciate feedback, because we certainly do, but because the expectations conceived by others' opinions can lead to an unanticipated experience... For better or worse. That said, I love this place!

The menu is well crafted, executed, and delivered. Menu items sampled: green papaya salad, fried snapper w/ onion rings & okra, bacon hot dog w/ avocado, skirt steak, ribs w/ kick-@ss potato salad, burger, chicken pinchos, shrimp pinchos, Caesar salad, and banana turnover w/ ice cream - twice! (remember, 2 seperate meals!). I could go on and on about the buttery cashews with the green papaya and blah blah blah. Or the depth of flavor in the rub for the meats with smokey charchol creating a blah blah blah... But I never want to read that. I just want to know if its good. And this was all really really good.

Service was friendly and efficient. It's casual and fun! I wish we would still be in the area for the Sunday pig :(.

They're living the small business dream of CASH ONLY, so bring some. Prices are very reasonable in my eyes, especially for the quality of what's presented.

Last but not least, I love that this place has an identity. They dont try to be too fancy, they serve honest food, the playlist is fun, and the people are friendly. If you don't see the coolness of a converted gas station, then this might not be the place for you.

From one Mom & Pop Op to another, Great job Kevin & Idalia!

“Great Food in a cute setting”
Reviewed 2 March 2012

The food ad atmosphere were great. And compared to the service we had in PR, the service was good. The night we went they were accepting cash only, so make sure you have cash. The drinks were good, and the food was wonderful. I had the guava salad, so yummy, ad the chicken skewer. My brother-in-law had the ribs and he really enjoyed them. Can't go wrong here:]
