We were desperate and tired as we booked into 'Mairood' on the internet from Bangkok. We only booked for a night in case we wanted to leave the next day. The excellent reviews are correct. It's not flashy, It's not busy. We had the most relaxing time. The gecko and the rooster are the only sounds to be heard. Chin is a great cook and host. We could have stayed on quite happily and are definitely planning to return! the only thing we did not understand was that it was a good one and a half hour drive from the Trat airport which meant that when we arrived we had to get a 12seater taxi/shuttle the whole way... very uneconomical on our part. If we had booked a little more in advance we could have arranged a pick-up with Mairood.

Reading all the reviews about Mairood Resort you doubt if all can be real. They are too good to be true. After staying there for about two weeks I can assure you the reviews are not correct.

Mairood Resort is even better than the most possitive review. The main reason for that is that Mr. Chin and his crew are so dedicated to accomodate the guests. You soon feel part of the Mairood Resort Family.

The bungalows, the garden, the swimming pool, everything is so beautiful and well maintained that we cannot remember to have stayed in a better place during our many trips throughout Asia.

We almost forgot to mention the excellent food Mr.Chin and his staff are offering. There is no menu but being next door to a beautiful fisher(wo)mens village with crab as the speciality it is to be expected that Mr. Chin has a lot of very well prepared fish dishes to offer.

A walk through the very authentic and friendly village is a 'must' staying in Mairood Resort. And when you are done with relaxing within the Resort they have some good bikes you can use to explore for example some nearby white sand beaches.

One big problem with this place: you always want to stay longer.

We thank Mr. Chin, Judy, Sampot, Da, Keng and Ploy for the way they took care of us during the last weeks of our Cambodia/Thailand trip.

However long you book for at mairood, you will want to stay longer! as all the reviews say, it is a paradise where you wouldnt expect to find one! The gardens are an oasis of calm, birds, wandering cockrels, and wonderful comfortable swingy couches by the lagoon, - perfect for lazing away the afternoon with a book, and falling asleep....
The pool is a plus, and the bungalows are very comfortable and well appointed , the luxury ones have a comfortable sitting room atached, and also kettle for making tea and coffee, and a fridge, they are not expensive at all.
The food is another massive plus, no, there is no menu, you dont need one, i could stay 6 months and not be tired of the food choice, Mr Chin is an incredible cook, wish we could have taken him with us for the rest of the holiday, he asks what you like, and cooks it to order. After the first delcious meal, we just left it to him, as we knew we werent going to be dissapointed, and it was a lovely suprise every evening to see what he had cooked up for us, always from the freshest ingredients., and much cheaper than you ll find in most places - and we were on a budget, so dont worry about ordering food here, you wont be ripped off with the price, and you certainly dont have to worry about the cleanliness of the kitchens.
There is no beach actually at the resort, but a few mins up past the lagoon, and you are on the beach, there has been a comment posted about the rubbish on the beach, but unfortunatly, thats life now, you get rubbish (plastic bottles etc) washed up even on idyllic islands like Koh Lipe and , Koh Maak and Koh Kood nowadays, but walk 10 /15 mins further, and you are on the most beautiful, pristine stretch of sand you could imagine, or borrow the bikes from Mr Chin, drive 10 mins up the road and turn off by the lily ponds, and there is and endless stretch of beautiful clean, deserted beach.
Mairood isnt meant to be easily found, but all you have to do is ring Mr Chin, and he will meet you from the airport, trat bus station, Cambodian border, or the pier from the islands, and drop you off at any of those points too.
This isnt just a hotel or resort, its more like a luxury homestay, and you feel as though you are with family. Obviously, i want to go back.............
Brenda and Steve

Room Tip: the luxury bungalows are worth the few bhats extra, but even the mangrove huts are comfortable. All...

Mairood Resort has what it takes to relax. It already starts with the walk to the resort. It’s not just a walk. It gives you an interesting view in the authentic fisherman houses situated along the path to the resort. All the colorful boats and people. Entering the resort makes place for several oooo’s an aaah’s about the beautiful botanic garden. The guesthouses also are very nice. The team working there is great and they are taking good care of their guests. Need anything? Just ask. During our stay the kitchen team surprised us every day with a different menu and every time it was great. I can really recommend staying at Mairood Resort. I certainly will go back again!

While cycling we were looking for a place to stay in the middle of nowhere. The resort is not easy to find, and when you approach it, you would not expect what you find behind the entrance gate. But when you enter, a little paradise is opening up: great (though a bit expensive) bungalows with tasteful furnishing, a swimming pool, a sauna, excellent food!!!, a nice garden: a perfect place to rest, so we stopped for an extra day. Very very quiet. Interesting village nearby. Lovely staff!
