“Perfect luxurious beach holiday!”
Reviewed 28 December 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Although most of the reviews are so positive we were (to tell the truth) a bit worried about the road noise mentioned in the last couple of reviews but decided to book anyway, and so happy we did.

You have to listen very attentively to actually notice the noise, specially if you keep the windows on the street side of the house closed. We kept everything open because we so loved the wonderful views of the garden with all the flowers and trees. Our stay at Olu Beach Villa was one of the best family holidays ever. My husband, mother-in-law and our two teenage daughters and I simply wallowed in the luxury of doing only what we really wanted to do, which was basically swimming, reading, and eating wonderful meals together. Rasika made the most heavenly curries - my mouth waters now, at the memory of them, and although I'm not one for desserts, must make a special mention of her wattalapan (hope I got the spelling right!) and banana fritters with local palm syrup.

Vasantha kept the house spotlessly clean throughout our stay. Believe me, I verge on the obsessive when it comes to this aspect of holiday rentals. The garden was swept daily and well maintained by Sarath, and it felt good to know Nelson was there at night, although we rarely saw him. The staff took good care of us, always attentive to our needs but never intrusive. The only negative comment I can think of is that the photos on the website don't do justice to this beautiful home. You walk in through a luscious garden into a house with stunning sea views and think - this is even better than the photos.

“Shabby chic beach house with EXCELLENT Sri Lankan food”
Reviewed 18 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Two adults, two kids - a two year old and a 4 month old
Stayed for 6 nights
Loved it, would certainly recommend
Highlights - excellent Sri Lankan food, convenience of having staff 24hours, easy indoor/outdoor living, shabby chic simple style.
Drawbacks - a more rural location and calmer sea would have made it perfection (and a five star rating), but neither really drew from our enjoyment of the place.

A shabby chic beach house on a near-deserted beach 2 hours from Colombo airport. Run by a very accommodating and switched on couple, Nirmala and David - they live in Colombo but were engaged and professional as owners/support before, during and after our stay. Excellent cook served us a huge range of truly delicious Sri Lanka food - she also used coconut oil and brown rice at our request and the food was healthy and exceptionally fresh as well as tasting fantastic...it was like being at a luxury health retreat. The villa is very comfortable - simple, stylish and an easy space for beach front living. The beach had a little bit of rubbish but aside from that was unspoilt and mostly empty. The waves were rough on most days - fine for a confident adult, not safe for a child, but that didn't stop us playing in the sand with the kids. The road was noisy because the Villa is right on the main road - even though I'm a light sleeper it wasn't a problem as the the waves were equally loud and the fans overhead it all melted into white noise. Very few mosquitoes. The local town (5 mins tuk tuk) doesn't offer much but charming Galle is 30 mins away and Nirmala helps with organising transportation. Very almost a five star rating.

“Near perfect - set on the most beautiful stretch of the beach”
Reviewed 11 January 2014 for a stay in January 2014

We stayed here for ten days looking for relaxation after a hectic year – and found this place to be near perfect. We had hired a driver for the duration so the 15 mins to all the buzz of Hikkaduwa was not at all an issue – more of an advantage. The Luxury of walking through the garden onto the beach and seeing no more than 10 people within a kilometer in each direction – during the whole stay (!) – needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

The house was clean and very well kept, wifi worked smoothly without interruptions even with teenagers streaming videos. Particularly thoughtful we found the books and board games left in the house. If you like falling asleep to the soft sound of breaking surf, you will surely sleep well here – even if the noise from the main road just behind the property wall is sometimes noticeable. But even for those that are easily disturbed by traffic the noise is surely better than most places to stay along the coast.

The staff was friendly, polite, considerate and helpful in a non-intrusive way. There were some language barriers to overcome, particularly with the chef, but what lacked in understanding was compensated for with effort. The owners were friendly and helpful as well both prior to arriving as well as during our stay. We felt truly welcomed as guests to their house.

The cooking was OK, it was reasonably easy to arrange a standard breakfast that was always served timely and well cooked. We soon reverted to sandwiches and fresh fruit for lunch and then let the chef decide on his choice for dinner. The variety of the menu could be expanded as could the decision process leading up to lunch or dinner.

The only thing we really missed was the pool. Not because we need it with the soft soothing sea breeze easing the heat and the garden shower to rinse off the salty sea water, but only because we like to be spoiled with both private beach and private pool… Once they get their pool approved and in place – we’ll be sure to come back! Enjoy your stay!

We appreciate the favourable comments in the review, and we are particularly happy to have our guests rate the beach so highly! We are working on the communication skills of our staff, and we will be offering a wider selection on the menu. Our aim is to offer our guests a level of service and facilities that will make them want to return to Olu Beach Villa in the future.
