A very basic conversion to create a lofted old house. You can only access the top bedroom via the lower bedroom which was a little inconvenient. There are no restaurants within walking distance but the village of Shivas is about 5 minute car ride away where there are at least 4 restaurants
Very quiet and very rural
We very much enjoyed our stay in the villa. Although there were just the two of us staying, the house is capable of hosting 2 couples and we noticed a fold up bed for one other person. Each level had a loo, sink and shower which was a real bonus. The kitchen is very well equipped for a holiday place and the views on the balcony were fabulous at the end of the day, watching the sun set with glass of "Crassi" in hand. The quiet was a big contrast to the nearest bustling village of Sivas just down the hill, but was most welcome. Sivas itself is a lovely, friendly village with several more tavernas to choose from for your evening meal.
Many people speak very good english, compared to my appalling Greek (I say to my shame) so it's relatively easy to make yourself understood. The owner of the villa speaks excellent English, so no problems there.
She also made us feel very welcome with a big plate of home cooked food (she runs the taverna a few yards away) and a bottle of water, even though we didn't get there till midnight. It was exactly what was needed.
There are many local beaches, just a car ride away, with clear water and clean beaches.
The history of Crete is vast and visible everywhere you go; most noteably in the Minoan archeological remains in Phaistos a few miles away.
The relatively local boat rides are also well worth the 30 euros per person for the trips to eg Preveli Gorge.....amazing place.
All in all it was worth the money which was a little more than I would normally have paid but was prepared to cough up for the sake of my friend's first experience of beautiful Crete.
It was a nice week-end with friends. We have found first the kafenion with the fantastic food and they told us for the houses they rent, so we desided to have a nice weekend with friends.
It was really what we seek for, a stone house traditionally built and decorated, with all the facilities and on the top a live fireplace, as our stay was during winter and we needed it. During the day we enjoy chatting in our small yard and we had the chance for a long walk to the nearby monastery.
