“Perfect for group camping in the Valley!”
Reviewed 10 October 2011

Really enjoyed my first visit to Housekeeping Camp over Labor Day Weekend. The place was alive with families, and everyone was having a good time. While the accommodations were pretty rustic, I was surprised how comfortable and easy camping here was with a group of people. I would come back in a heartbeat. It was such a fun and relaxed time.

In case you choose to stay here, I've include the packing list we used and updated it with all the finer points we learned once we were up there:

We paid about $90/night for two nights at the Yosemite Housekeeping camp. We found the tent cabin to be disgusting. It was dirty, moldy and old trash left in the tent including used kleenex from prior guests. The cabins are duplex with neighbors on the opposite side of the tent. We had people with 2 babies move in the other side after midnight on our first night and we never were able to get any proper sleep with all the crying. We would have been so much better off in our tent which is clean and not have neighbors sharing a common wall.

Very convenient and good value, this is the perfect place to "camp" in the park with all the comfort needed. Very nice to spend time with friend.
Try to book one of the tent near the river if you can; best spot.
Also very convenient: grocery store inside, ice, lundry service, ...

This was my first time camping. Camping is not for me. I think if you like the tent camping you'll like Housekeeping. I would prefer a hotel or cabin. The "rooms" are clean. It's cement. It seemed to be in the middle of everything. There is also a bus stop for the Yosemite bus that goes around the park. They were replacing all the mattresses when I was there so the mattresses were clean and new. The restrooms across the way were ok. A little dirty. They could have been cleaned more often especially since it rained and there was mud every where. There were no paper towels and no air dryer to replace the paper towels in the bathrooms. We were always first in line for the showers when they opened. They were clean, but wear your shower shoes.

Room Tip: Get something close to the bathrooms so you don't have to walk too far and have a greater chance...

This was our 3rd visit in the past 4 years. We stayed in canvas tents in Housekeeping camp. We had 2 river units with a beautiful view and 1 non river unit. My 19 year old son and his friends stayed in the non river unit . We stayed in the river unit with our daughter and niece and my sister and her family with 2 children 3 - 9 stayed in the other. A breathtaking view if you are lucky enough to get a river unit. Each unit has 1 full bed and a set of twin bunk beds. We brought and extra cot which fit perfectly in between. We bought our own rafts and had a great time floating down the river. We also took our bikes to ride the many beautiful trails throughout the park So peaceful and beautiful. All ages enjoyed the river. We took a trip to Yosemite Falls and Vernal Falls. Go prepared with water and snacks and common sense to be careful and not take risks. In the evening walk to the bridge on the Merced River to look at the amazing stars. We will return next summer it is always a guaranteed great time.
