From the moment you arrive at Orchids you feel special. Let the amazing Art Deco envelope you and imagine what it would have been like in its hey day!

The meals are beautifully prepared with special treats sprinkled in. There is an extensive wine list and marvellous tasting menu with wine paring. Prepare to feel spoiled!

If spending a whole evening seems too much, think about enjoying bar snacks and a drink or dessert at the bar in restaurant. You get the ambiance and can enjoy the surroundings. Or consider having lunch in the bar area. You can’t go wrong! The food is delicious and the service impeccable.

The Netherland Plaza where Orchids is located and the restaurant itself are two of Cincinnati’s jewels!

I’m not sure, but I think I’ve never eaten at a 5 diamond restaurant (AAA) before. The fact that it was right in my hotel made it too tempting to pass up. They have a weeknight “taste of” menu that allows a diner to experience their amazing cuisine without totally breaking the bank, but I ended up choosing from their a la carte menu for just about $10 more. I enjoyed a signature bourbon cocktail, then soup and a halibut entree. I won’t say it was the best food I’ve ever eaten, but that would be hard as I’ve had some amazing meals. It was excellent, however, and the top notch meal was further enhanced by attentive service. I happily spent moments between courses gazing around at the Art Deco details of the historic Palm Court and enjoying the live music. The staff kept bringing little food surprises, too, such as a two-bite appetizer before the soup arrived, an after dinner sampler of bite-sized desserts (delectable!) and a parting gift of a honeyed nut/fig bar to take to the room for a late-night snack.

Perhaps this was a bad night though I couldn't see why - maybe not enough enough wait staff, perhaps too few in the kitchen. We were seated for an hour an a half before a tiny amuse bouche finally arrived and by 3 hours had only finished 2 courses. A adjacent table got up and left. The wait staff were pleasant and helpful on their rare visits to our table. I think it was an hour before we got menus. The food was mediocre. A fairly decent soup followed by rather tasteless lamb and beef dishes. The halibut was dry and stringy. The duck was said to be OK. We have eaten here a few times over the years with better experiences. I believe there is a new chef. Fine dining is not exactly thriving in Cincinnati at present so this was discouraging.

Beautiful room, excellent service and Chef Todd Kelly always exceeds our expectations! The presentation is superb as is the food. His unique blends of items makes me hungry thinking about this place. An awesome experience each and every time.
