Description: It is a concept of casual intimacy and communal romance.Sotto is the art of simplicity, a steward of restraint. It’s undressed, gutsy and human. It is fire, meat, wheat, and laughter.Above all, Sotto is Italian.

The building is very unique and the food was phenomenal. We were sat by a large party that was incredibly loud and they quickly moved us to quieter area. We would suggest the brushetta with goat cheese and hazel nut honey and the donuts.

Went here for lunch while in town on business and would love to go back for dinner. Pasta and appetizers were all outstanding and the atmosphere with much exposed wood is delightful.

If you have not been to Sotto, stop reading this review and go to OpenTable right now to book a spot! We went on New Year's, so couldn't get a table at dinner time, but reserved one for a late lunch. It was our second visit, so we knew it would be great! Whatever you get (ask your knowledgeable waiter if you're unsure), it will be delicious! The service is as good as the food! The menu is set up so that ideally you order one dish from each course, and share with your party. Can't say enough about how wonderful everything is. I'm not a chicken liver fan, but our first waiter suggested the chicken liver mousse, and it was amazing! Just an example of the unexpected at Sotto...it's all good!

My wife and I have been to Sotto numerous times. The fact we have often returned is testimony to the excellent and creative food the restaurant offers. The service is generally very good, although somewhat harried given the crowded atmosphere of this popular restaurant. Ordering from Sotto's menu takes some care -- this is a place where standard lasagna or spaghetti and meatballs is unlikely to be available. This means that a knowledgable and well spoken server is important -- even when he/she seems under pressure owing to the press of business.

Sotto is located in the basement of a building long devoted to restaurants over the years. The atmosphere at Sotto's is filled with energy and not at all dingy, as a basement space might be. The clientele might be described as "young professional" lively, but certainly not rowdy, Sotto is, however, rather noisy, particularly at peak dinner hours when almost all tables are taken. This is not a place for quiet, thoughtful conversation, but it is a place for interesting and very good food.

TripAdvisor might want to change the address. It is at 118 E. 6th Street, NOT 114.

First time visiting this restaurant. Came here with family (5 people) on a Sunday evening at 8:00PM, and the place was still quite packed. Luckily I made a reservation the day before (yes, they do accept reservations).

It is an Italian restaurant.
Atmosphere is generally casual, being that the entire restaurant is a basement structured restaurant. The two other restaurants that are at the street level are also owned by the same group. I wish they had turned down the music a little...It was giving me a headache after a while. Perhaps it was because my first time there and I wasn't used to that. This restaurant has no windows either, so it got stuffy inside sitting there waiting for our food. I had to step out to get some fresh air. The atmosphere is probably the primary reason I didn't rate the restaurant "Excellent".

Coming to the food (Remember, there were 5 of us):
Bruschetta - Goat cheese & hazelnut honey, 4 pieces = Very good! Fresh taste!
Bruschetta - Baccala mantecato (cod), with golden raisins, chilis, and pine nuts, 4 pieces = Very good! Fresh taste! Flavorful!

Salad - Black kale Caesar salad with parmigiano = Excellent tasting salad!

Grilled Creekstone Porterhouse Steak w/ daily sides, shared among 5 adults.
This whole thing was 35.3oz. The sides it came with were mashed cauliflower and asparagus with garlic and shredded cheese to top.
We finished everything.
We had the steak made medium-well. It was the best steak I had in recent memory. It was sliced into portions that could be easily shared between 2 to 6 people. It is highly suggested to shared this. Again, some of the juiciest, fresh, high quality steak I had eaten in recent memory. Everyone loved it! The side dishes were also great! We had also ordered a side of garlic bread, which was very light and flavorful.

After we had dinner, then dessert. Normally we don't order dessert after eating so much, and we all initially said not to order dessert. However once the server brought the dessert menus to our table, we all ended up ordering something.
Their Gelato was pretty good, with a good mix of flavors to choose from. Ricotta doughnuts were very good! Warm, fresh, and light, served with a pistachio sauce, fudge sauce, and a salted caramel sauce.

Everything we had was delicious! Best part was the food was fresh and light, and filling. We didn't have a feeling of heaviness after finishing everything. Overall, Sotto is a top-notch restaurant! I would come here just to have that Creekstone Steak again.
