I was worried about this motel. The exterior and lobby looked like any other crummy 2-star motel, but I decided to try to save some money and cross my fingers. I have certainly had my share of rock-hard beds, poorly draining cold showers, and depressing motel environments.

However, I was pleasantly surprised that the bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were well maintained and not old/worn/shoddy. I was especially pleased with the bathroom: clean, bright, everything fairly new (though average), and functioning perfectly, including no problems with drainage or hot water (and the hotel was 100% booked).

Additionally, breakfast is included in your rate, and this means not just the standard continental breakfast, but two waffle irons and batter! The spa and pool area were also clean, as was the pool bathroom, and they provide pool towels.

All in all, for one of these road-side motels which you want for cheap b/c you're just sleeping there, I was VERY pleased with my experience.

I was apprehensive about staying here after reading many of the marginal reviews and noting that 86% of the reviewers wouldn't recommend this place. However, I arrived to find that the hotel wasn't that bad. Certainly, it's nothing special and pretty basic, but it was very clean, the staff was friendly, and I got a good couple of nights sleep in a town I may never visit again.

I paid $153, including tax for two nights (Sat & Sun). Expensive? It didn't seem any more expensive than other roadside franchise hotels I've been to. Walla Walla is in the middle of nowhere, but it does have a growing wine industry that attracts people with money from Seattle, Portland and other cities for weekend visits. Perhaps this is why Super 8 can charge these prices for average hotel rooms.

I asked for a "newer" room and was given a room on the first floor. I was told the first floor had newer carpeting, was non-smoking and didn't allow pets. The room was basic, but very clean.

There was a bit of noise from the room above me - kids running - but once they settled down, I couldn't hear much, including television noise, hallway noise, talking or showers from other rooms. There also wasn't much noise from Highway 12, which was close by.

There is an indoor pool just off the lobby that was used quite a bit by kids, so expect to hear people in the hallway going to/from the pool. It closes at 10pm. Again, nothing that really bothered me.

The continental breakfast was fine. They served coffee, tea, juice, muffins, instant oatmeal and had a homemade waffle station. No complaints.

Regarding the safe charges, I spoke with an employee about this and Super 8 charges you $1.70 per day for use of the safe in the room, however, you can simply tell them at checkout to remove the charges if you don't use it. This is CLEARLY outlined at the front desk. The key thing to remember is to ask to have the safe charges removed BEFORE you checkout (i.e., your payment is processed). For some reason, once the payment is processed, Super 8 can't refund the money for the charges (likely because it's an outside vendor).

My expectation was that the Super 8 would be one of those roadside hotels with old carpeting, thin walls, and a musty smell. This wasn't the case. It was clean, comfortable, and fine for a night or two.

Starting with the good:
Hotel was clean and had the basics. It was also centrally located. Very basic, but ok for price range!

Now on to the reason this place will never receive my return business:
1. Started to get reservations on line, but decided to phone in reservation to assure non smoking room.
Quoted specific price (which matched online quote, including taxes, all fees, etc)
2. Arrived and price quoted over phone was increased by 15% on the check in rate!!
3. Spoke with Assistant manager who made several excuses as to why the rates went up (only the online price quote is accurate, the phone booking was a guaranteed room {like that should give them the right to change price}, new employee, system glitch, added charges like taxes, other hidden fees, etc). After going the rounds, she finally gave in and honored the price I was quoted, but when we checked out, we still had to fight to get the rate, and even still, it was not exactly, but if the few dollars means that much to them, they can have it.
4. VERY NOISY hotel, bring earplugs if you HAVE to stay here... people talking at 5am, making a lot of noise!
5. No HOT water when hotel is full........it ran out every day the hotel was full!!
Do not recommend, unless every other place in town is booked.
IF you do stay, READ your bill very carefully, all the fine print and TAKE A COPY OF your QUOTE! Legally, they HAVE TO HONOR quoted rates in the state of Washington!

The desk clerk that checked us in, she was exceptionally friendly and professional. Upon arrival, we did not closely inspect the room, just went out for dinner. When we returned, we noticed our room was missing the standard table found in all Super 8's. Under the hanging light was just a chair & empty floor space. We went to the lobby (a new clerk now). He said our room didn't come with a table because it had 2 beds. I know better - the beds are offset for a table in the room, and there is a hanging light just above where it would be, but I did not argue. The entire time he was speaking with us, he seemed preoccupied - his eyes were glued to a computer screen - very unprofessional & cold. Later, we noticed a few more things. Unflushed feces in the toilet, bathroom floors dirty/black in the corners. The TV remote only partially worked. Was unable to turn the volume down below a certain point. The buttons on the television did not work at all - we were forced to use the remote. The beds were comfortable - no bugs, but when we checked the mattresses, one had apparent coffee spill stains all down the side. The in-room coffee is horrible tasting. The breakfast was not available in the mornings until well after we were up & going - needs to available earlier, 6 a.m. at least. Worst Super 8 experience ever.
