I would call it a Diamond in the rough. It is absolutely beautiful. The workers are top notch. The town and wineries are delightful. Go for a weekend getaway or any occasion. You will love it. The drive to Walla Walla is breathtaking.

The location of this hotel can't be beat. If you like wine tasting and meandering through the shops of a quaint downtown area, The Marcus Whitman makes a great home-base. We stayed in the "convention center" side, which I'm told is newer. I am also told that the older/original part of the hotel is fancier and therefore pricier.

The pros: A free hot breakfast, internet, and airport shuttle are included. The Marc restaurant is very good. Great, cozy sitting areas in the lobby. Walking distance to downtown and many great tasting rooms. The employees are courteous and helpful.

The cons: In spite of the inviting lobby area, the room was unremarkable. The decor and furnishings are a bit dated. The bathroom was cramped and the shower head needed cleaning or replacing. Our room looked over the parking lot with a small sitting area just under our window, so we heard a fair amount of noise from other guests sitting below.

We visited here to enjoy a walkable vacation and it really hit the mark. Walkable to a variety of restaurants - from casual to high-end - and to a wide variety of wine tasting rooms. You can even walk to the Safeway if you forgot something at home. Breakfast is included and it is a real breakfast.

The Marcus Whitman is an increcible old hotel that has maintained it's beauty. We were not able to stay in the original part of the hotel but the wing that was added on I believe in the 1960's is well appointed. The room was very clean and we loved being able to open the windows.
The front desk staff is amazing, whenever they saw us they would always greet us with a smile and ask how we were doing.
The waitress we had Saturday night in the bar was excellent, great at serving, great visiting with and really engaged in conversation with us, she made the evening.
Their signture drinks, much better than most places that have "Signature" drinks, and the desserts were excellent, most of your typical desserts but with a twist in flavoring but not overdone.
Can't wait to go back.
