Started our stay in Hawaii at Pac Beach. A big and busy hotel with a fabulous oceanarium.
Upon early arrival (due to flights) we were disappointed to find that there were no early-check ins available.. so had to wonder around waikiki for an extra 4 hours whilst jetlagged, but as soon as check-in was available the front desk let us know!
Our room was on the 37th floor and partial ocean-view was basically a HUGE view of the beach on one side of the lanai and great mountain view on the other. Lanai big and spacious enough to sit out on and enjoy the view!
The room itself however was definitely in need of renovation, with old carpets and chipped paintwork, as well as the bathroom being nothing special! However for the money that we paid.. it was well worth it for the view and fairly spacious room! The light from the hall also becomes a bit of an issue at night, so we needed to cover the bottom of door to block light! The breakfast was FANTASTIC.. not only the surroundings (oceanarium restaurant) but the buffet itself was extensive and well worth the money! Highly recommend the bread and butter pudding!!!
Overall, if you are looking for something quiet or a really well kept hotel, such as the hilton..this is not the hotel for you.
But on the other hand if you are looking for a hotel that is within budget and value for money, this hotel is 1 minute from the beach!

We stayed at this hotel Feb 8-17.
Arrived very late afternoon from airport after a 9 1/2 flight from Chicago. Ilima was the transfer carrier to the hotel, great job by "Cousin Wayne".
We received a room on the 20th floor of the tall tower(in the back), no problem. I had our TA ask for a non-smoking room with a kingsize bed. the clerk told us that we were going to be in a room with 2 queens, no problem. We were to get breakfast buffet tickets and when I asked for ours we were told that we did not get them with our package. Which is not what we were told by the travel agent, this was a problem. I was told to call our TA.

When we went to our room we noticed how shabby the halls actually were, bad carpet, etc. and it had a really bad smell to my nose.
We unpacked and left the room for something to eat and try to stay awake for a few more hours. We discovered when we came back to the room an ashtray on the table in the corner and that this was a smoking floor!!!
Too Tired to call after a long day I waited until morning.....
I called the front desk and told them that we requested a non-smoking room as I am allergic to smoke....she found us a room on the 26th floor and we moved later that day. Fresher smelling, but not any better for the wear and tear on the room. toilet was hard to flush, looked like it was sitting tilted to the left. the carpet on the floor was worn and stained, badly. the paint on the trim was chipping off..for this we paid several hundred dollars for a 9 nights.

I called my TA from the smoking room when I woke up. She told me that all 3 couples that traveled together were to have comp tickets for breakfast. Then she called United Vacations and the front desk. They told her that we paid for a standard room and that everyone else paid for the upgrades, but, that they gave us an upgrade to a partial oceanview when we chacked in. (they did not tell us of this "Upgrade") Let me say this, all rooms have partial oceanviews and partial mountain views!!!
The breakfast tickets were the only thing we did not get and we were told by the hotel we could purchase the package for our stay at approx. $14.00 each, per day. Believe me the breakfast was good but not $14.00 each, everyday!!!

Even the front tower(much more expensive) after going to visit our friends needed a makeover. They really need to clean and freshen all rooms.
too bad they are so busy, it will be a has-been hotel soon if they don't pay attention to the upkeep with painting and carpeting and such.
I would stay here again if the place were to be given a face lift in the rooms.

now the good things:
The employees in the service depts: concierge, cleaning gals, waiters, busboys, etc. were the nicest you could ask for, so it kind of made up for lack of upkeep to this hotel.
Good Location, Beach outside front door and across the street. ABC stores ( All Bases Covered) everywhere, is what the driver told us.
good places to eat up and down the street.

Try Teddy's Bigger Burgers down the street and across from the Park. delicious. Cold Stone Creamery for great ice cream treats...leave a tip they will sing for you.
Also, Tiki's for drinks and dinner, Coconut Willy's for music by amusing bands and tourist watching ( International Market Place) cheapest Mi Ti's were at Legends, $2.50 each, everyday, and they were excellent.
oh and the street vendors at night... go see the artists on the street at night down by IMP. they are fantastic!

fyi: Nothing is cheap in Waikiki.
what we paid to stay at this hotel and eat in Hawaii for 9 nights, we could have gone to Mexico twice for 10 days each time, all inclusive. Now Mexico is not Hawaii but then again Hawaii is not Mexico either.
I have never written a negative review for a hotel in all my vacations. so would I recommend this place....If they clean it up, yes.
but when there are so many other places to stay nearby for better pricing and cleaner facilities. I would check on further.

I read the reviews on this hotel after i had booked!!!! Then i started to worry about where l was staying, but it was all good,
the rooms are tired and bathrooms need renovating but you are hardly ever in your room we had a partial ocean view on the 11th floor it was very relaxing good buffet breakfast included and so close to everything. I would deffinately stay there again, from what l hear most of the hotels need a good overhaul in Hawaii, dont worry about staying there you will have a great time.

My sister and i stopped here for 5 days, and i have to say i cannot fault the place, ok its not the Hilton! but you know its not going to be from the price. The buffet breakfast that we got (which was included in the room price) was fantastic it saw us right through until the evening.
The rooms are clean and spacious and the bathrooms large and clean. The staff at the hotel were always friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel could not have been better, right on the beach close to all shops and amenities.
Unless you are real real fussy you will not go wrong with this hotel, if you are fussy you'll never be happy anyway with where you stay so save your money and stay here to.
Certainly going back to Hawaii and most definitely staying here again.

We stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel Jan 8-15, 2007. We found the rooms to be clean and tidy. The housekeepers had the rooms serviced in a very timely manner and if you needed extra beach towels, they were very accommodating. There were very nice shops in the hotel and the ever popular ABC Store was in the hotel lobby. Everything you needed was in the room ie: Hair dryer, iron, ironing board, etc. The bathrooms were quite spacious. You were only charged for the in room safe if you used it. Our package put us in the 17 story Beach Tower with a view of the Mountains and the Ocean. Our package also included the Oceanariam Breakfast Buffet. If you could not find something you liked to eat at this buffet, you are just to picky. The beach was a 30 second walk from the hotel. Everything you could want was within walking distance. The International Market, luxury shopping, souveniour shopping, restaruants, and fast food (McDonalds, & Burger King, amoung other places to get burgers.) Most of the tour operators had busses that pickup
us up at the hotel, we did not have to go to other hotels to be picked up.
We had a late night flight, and the hotel accommodated us with a hospitality room to use at no charge.
We, along with the other 2 couples that went with us would stay at this hotel again.
