“Nice 3 beds in a mini sweet room.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2012

My mother, sister and I were traveling Hawaii ( Oahu, Big Island and Maui) for 2 weeks and it was very important to have 3 separate beds. This hotel's room was spacious and had comfy 3 queens size beds in a room. Unfortunately, last room was ( we stayed here twice) facing side of a building and bit noisy, but I would recommend this hotel if you are on budget and you need 3 queens size beds in one room!

Also Chinese restaurant on 1st floor was good, too. Only problem is that they don't have any window. Made me feel like eating at basement...

Well, I wish carpet was cleaner....

Aloha and thank you for your review,

Wasn’t your room just the bomb? The size gives you a lot of space to move around in but the beds are so comfy, many of our guests are happy about that. 3 Queen sized beds are not the norm in Waikiki I must let you know.

The Chinese Garden is a reasonably priced restaurant that serves very tasty recipes and many guests enjoy their menu.

Contact me before your return trip so that I can personally make your reservation.

I stayed here for two nights after a cruise. I really liked this hotel. All the employees were so helpful and friendly. Very proactive. Rooms are big and have balconies. They are well equipped with microwave, fridge, safe, ironing board & iron and coffee maker. Free wi-fi in the room and free local phone calls. My room had two queen size beds.
I had Room 218 on the second floor. The view was the parking garage across the lane. This did not concern me as I really was not in the room for the view. I was concerned about possible noise being on such a low floor but there was hardly any. Perhaps this was because I was there on a Sunday and Monday night. Being on the second floor did make it quick and easy to use the stairs to go out.
Location is great as everything you need is right outside. I took the bus ($2.50) to Diamond Head.

Only suggestion I would make to the hotel is to consider to install new showerheads to conserve water and reduce energy consumption.

I would certainly stay here again.
Andrew

Aloha and thank you for your review,

Our staff continues to try and make each guest’s stay an enjoyable one. Many of our guests are pleasantly surprised at the size of our rooms. With our central location, paying $2.50 for a bus ride is a lot less expensive than renting a car.

I will bring your suggestion about the shower head up to our Chief Engineer and our owner; thank you for thinking of that.

The Aqua wave is an older hotel that has had recent renovations and is kept freshly painted. Reasonably priced with a large room, two beds, refrig, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer and safe. Everything worked and room was kept restocked and clean daily. Staff was mostly attentive and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located two blocks from Waikiki Beach and one block from International Market Place. Large amount of traffic in area, both foot and vehicle. Parking is provided onsite for $20 a day. Lanai was just large enough for 2 plastic lawn chairs and a small table. View was supposed to be "partial mountain", which was accurate if you hung out over the rail and looked between all the other buildings you could see some mountains in the distance. Two elevators were slow and often passed by our stop as we waited up to 10 mins sometimes.. We stayed for one week on the third floor. The reason we will never stay here again is the constant noise. Honolulu is a large city and there is a fair amount of traffic noise, but the real problem was the nightly jams from the stage at International Market Place. It felt as though we were clubbing each night often until 03:00 in the morning. Hotel does provide ear plugs for those of you who are "light sleepers". We would only recommend this hotel for a younger crowd who enjoys the very loud night life each night.

Room Tip: Stay on upper floors if possible, but no room is quiet.

Aloha,

Being located in the center of Waikiki comes with both convenience and some challenges. The foot traffic is what it is, we cannot control the sidewalks in a city that has a population over 700,00 people. As you noticed, the vehicular traffic seemed heavy, yet some New Yorkers feel we have no traffic at all.

Our staff continues to work at keeping the hotel clean and presentable with keeping everything in working order. You would be happy to know that our elevator modernization project is on schedule and will be completed before the end of the year. The nightclubs are located at other buildings but are still close by and we cannot control their patrons.

Hotel was cleaned every day. Great value near the beach. We walked every day to beach. Many buses run right below the hotel, so we never had to hire Taxi or rent any vehicle. We got free upgrade with 2 balconies. We are glad that we found a great value hotel which is close to all conveniences: shops, grocery stores, great restaurants, Mc-Donalod, Subway Sandwich, iHOP and more. Also behind the restaurants we found several International fast food restaurants - food was very good and very reasonable.

Aloha,

Our team works so hard in keeping the hotel and property as clean as possible. They will be happy to know that you noticed. Our location enables many of our guests the luxury of not having to rent a car because the trolley and the bus go right by our front door. Food is never a problem, because everything is walking distance from our front steps.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2012

We stayed here for two nights pre-cruise (Thur and Fri) and then 2 nights post-cruise (Sat and Sun). We'd booked two rooms (1 for older parents, one for us and 2 teenagers). We had great service from everyone (the two guys schlemping our luggage in particular) and the rooms were very large and clean. Front desk was friendly and accommodating - asked for extra coffee packets for the room and extra towels first day. From then on, didn't have to ask again. Were upgraded to higher floor first visit. Rooms had fridge, coffee, microwave. Views not terrible - a lot of looking down on rooftops, but could see both ocean and mountains from both rooms. Heard Hilton's fireworks Friday night, but couldn't see them from our room.

So, would we do it again? Maybe not, but not hotel's fault. It is definitely a good value hotel and definitely close to everything. Which is why I may not stay again. The heart of Waikiki beats a bit too fast for us old folks. Other postings have commented on the shady crowd at night - we never had an issue on the streets and felt safe walking to restaurants close by - but the streets are PACKED with people late at night. Re parking - there is a $20 per night charge (which we found to be pretty cheap for the area), but the lot is very small as others have said. There is plenty of overflow parking at the lot next door. However, we had a mini-van, and as such couldn't use the overflow lot. We had to park at the adjacent Waikiki Trade Center - if that happens, take your hotel parking pass with you, you'll get special rate and hotel will credit you for that. But it's that parking lot that got creepy and loud at night. Apparently when folks get kicked out of bars (or perhaps too young/cheap to go to the bars?) they hang out at the Trade Center lot. The hotel can't help this, but you'd think the Trade Center would demand more surveillance. Despite that, the van was safe and the people really weren't interested in bugging us - they were in their own world. Thurs night wasn't terribly noisy, but you might hear garbage trucks or parking lift if you are a light sleeper. Friday a little noiser - Saturday was noise all night long, Sunday very quiet. Except they still pick up garbage early on Sunday! The hotel backs to the International Marketplace which does have live music at night. However, my folks and kids slept fine, hubby and I seemed more sensitive to it, surprisingly.

Yes, there are stairs from the hotel's parking to the lobby - but the bell attendants will get your luggage from the garage and bring it up for you, take it to your room, etc. I hadn't expected their great service at the value hotel price. Didn't use pool, but saw several going there and they have a towel exchange in the lobby. Ate at Chinese restaurant on site - good service, ok food and price.

There's a great little place across the street for breakfast (Seaside Grill - quick, cheap), and St Germains Bakery next door. Also an IHOP and McDonald's within a block or so - ate at each of those. Also, Hula Dogs really close (and yummy) and ABC store too for water, sodas and snacks in the room.

So, yes - good value hotel, great service and location, clean, everything we needed and I'd recommend it without hesitation, as long as you go in knowing what to expect. Those of you looking for a resort hotel experience, not here. Just good friendly folks.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for higher room if possible.

Aloha,

I’m glad you found our hotel to your liking and apologize for the parking scenarios. We try to work everything out to assist our guests and some things are out of our control as you mentioned. The staff continue to work everyday in making memories with our guests and sharing the Aloha spirit with them. The noise is what it is, something we cannot control but we would rather focus on the things we can control.
