Happy hour lasts until 6:30 and then starts again later. We had cheese dumplings, pork dumplings kim chee, garlic noodles, steak we cooked ourselves with multiple sauces, squid and a pear mohito all from the happy hour menu. The food that we didn't have to cook was brought out with great sauces. Overall the waiter, atmosphere, prices and food were great.

Combining Japanese and local food favorites, Gyu-Kaku is a fun place to dine with great food at a reasonable price. Be prepared to do your own cooking at your own table. There are a lot of choices for meat and fish but kind of limited on veggies. I like the semi-open air dining and ability to see a the hustle and bustle of Waikiki sidewalks without being in the middle of it. If you're on a budget, make sure you work the happy hour specials for food and drinks. You can save a lot of money. The chuck kalbi and bistro harami were excellent, so was the ahi tuna. Drinks were also very good, try the Asian Pear Mojito. I definitely recommend.

I had a coupon in the entertainment book for this place and decided to go with my gf. Our server was extra friendly and gave us lots of recommendations. Overall we spent $30 total and got the miso steak, chicken and cheese fondue, gyu-kaku nachos, garlic noodles, and yakimochi ice cream. Everything was delicious except for the garlic noodles, which we didn't like as much. It was filling however, and not bad; just paled in comparison to the other dishes we had.

The gyu-kaku nachos are really something special, with avacado and sashimi mixed in. My personal favorite was the yakimochi ice cream dessert - it was fun cooking the mochi slices and watching them expand. Our server got the ice cream flavor wrong, but she let us keep the wrong flavor and gave us the right flavor as well! We left full and satisfied.

Great service, great food, and lots of fun!

Our hotel was right across the street from this place. It had some decent reviews, so we went. We made sure to go at happy hour when they offered big discounts on drinks, and a special lower priced food menu. Prices for food and drink increased substantially after happy hour.
Food was great and it was a lot of fun. You order raw meat and veggies, then grill them right at your table. We ordered a number of plates to cook: a beef dish, an order of shortribs, chicken, shrimp, pork belly, corn, and mushrooms. Waiter was very friendly and helpful...I'd go back again in an instant.
