4 of us went to dinner tonight at DUC'S BISTRO. We were greeted by a friendly waiter who showed us to the back room. The atmosphere in this room is very comfortable and appealing. Service was excellent.
We ordered "Family Style"--but should have ordered individual dishes because the three entrees were not enough for 4 people to share even though we ordered the excellent Vietnamese Spring Rolls. The other dish that was excellent was the Pan Fried Fish with Green Mango. This was outstanding! We also enjoyed the yellow rice that was served with our dishes. We ordered the Father's Day Special Chicken with Kaffir Lime and we felt that this was not "special". It needed much more seasoning to make it special. Our waiter suggested the Steak Saigon which was $26. Yes, the steak was very tender but there was nothing to make this steak memorable let alone worth the $26 price tag. For dessert, our friend ordered the Chocolate Ganache Cake ($7)which is a flourless semi-sweet chocolate cake. It was very, very dense and felt like your were eating a bar of semi-sweet chocolate. My husband ordered the Tapioca ($7) with Hawaiian apple banana and fresh coconut cream (too much!). I ordered the
Vanilla ice cream with candied ginger and homemade ginger syrup ($8) very, good.
So, our advice for dessert choices would be to stick to the ice cream.
After discussing this dinner, the 4 of us decided that there needed to be a bit more "zing" of spices added to the dishes to make them go from good to excellent.
Our bill for the 4 of us:
One appetizer, 3 entrees, 3 desserts, one glass of wine and one beer came to $120.
We felt that this was a very expensive dinner for what we had.
