We have enjoyed this restaurant very much in the past, but not this time. First, I must say that the service is outstanding. Otherwise, it is so-so at best. New owners took over during the last year, and it is not what it used to be.

Do not bother looking at the menu online! The actual menu is much more limited than what is shown either on the restaurant's website or opentable.com. There was only one warm appetizer: escargot. Previously, they had foie gras, but it was nowhere to be seen - or eaten. Otherwise, there were cold appetizers, salads, and onion soup. The entrée choices seemed more limited than previously. There were fish dishes, but no shellfish other than scallops. The meat choices were uninspired. They did not have the usual (for the asking) beef quartet. I finally ordered a rib eye steak, which was cooked as ordered, and the Gorgonzola butter on the steak was very tasty. The potatoes were good but barely warm. I almost needed a magnifying glass to find the vegetables: one small carrot, a small piece of squash, and a small slice of zucchini, and none of those tasty enough to be worth the effort of chewing.

It was strange that when I made the reservation, 7:00 PM was not available, but the restaurant was maybe two-thirds full at that time and afterward. No one was in the private dining room.

I would like to reiterate that the service was impeccable. The limited menu and uninspired food prevented us from having a very good or memorable dinner. We won't return.

We went on a Thursday night. After calling other restaurants at 5:00 p.m. and was basically shut out til after 8:00 p.m. we were pleasantly surprised that Le Bistro had a table for 4 of us at 6:30 on such a last minute request. We arrived at a little after 6 and was seated immediately off to the side of the restaurant as the majority of the restaurant was taken by a birthday party crowd and there were only 3 tables left on the side. Everything was fine until the "entertainment" started for the party. There were singing, toasting, etc which was great for the party but not so great for the 4 of us who wanted some quiet dining. Granted, the food and service was very good, we were denied the peace and quietness of a fine dining restaurant due to the party. I think we should have been informed of such a party (and noise) when they accepted our reservation so we could decide if we are willing to have a noisy dinner. This happening could've been an exception to the norm for this restaurant and I hope so... Otherwise, everything else was fine...

"We have not enough fish for your order", "because our freezer broke". "And, Our chef is not working tonight"
This is what our waiter told us. We were stunned that the waiter told us all of their problems in the kitchen. If your chef is not working, who is preparing the food? We wanted to get up and leave, but a manager came to the table and persuaded us to stay, and to let them try to make it right. The french onion soup wasn't fresh, it took forever to get drinks, the ceasar salad had store bought croutons, the fish that they did serve is was good though. The manager told us they were going to comp our meal, but brought us a bill for our drinks, coffee, etc. At least they tried, but it was a FAIL.

Enjoyed their ahi tartare, their sautéed mussels, clams and prawns for appetizers, and their tenderloin steak for my main entree, paired with a couple of glasses of their Domaine Serene Pinot Noir from Oregon. Service was attentive and professional. Definitely worth the drive.

I've been here a few times with friends and I can't see the attraction to this place. It is located in a run down strip mall with faded signage on the outside. Everything appears good as you look in the restaurant with the fresh white linen tablecloths. Then you sit down at the table with some rickety chairs. There is definitely an incongruity here, the prices are for a top level restaurant but you move out the tables and it could easily become a nail salon!
As for the food it is mediocre at best, the escargot was overcooked but the butter/garlic sauce was lovely for dipping the sliced bread. The onion soup was loaded with hefty dose of brandy. The fish was good, as you would expect to get in Hawaii. All expectations for a superb meal in a strip mall went as expected, not possible.
Maybe this is as good as it gets for "French Food" in Hawaii but next time my friends suggest we come back, I'll pass.
