Owner description: Iolani Palace, the official residence of Hawaii's monarchy, is a marvel of opulence, innovation and political intrigue. Meticulously restored to its former grandeur, this National Historic Landmark in downtown Honolulu tells of a time when their Majesties, King Kalakaua, who built the palace in 1882, and his sister and successor, Queen Liliuokalani, walked its celebrated halls. Today, you can enjoy one of the most spectacular living restorations in all of Polynesia and immerse yourself in Hawaii's royal heritage. E komo mai! Welcome!

“Audio tour is complete.”
Reviewed 10 March 2012

Since the Americans sold off the furniture when the palace was taken over, many of the rooms are a bit bare. Still, the history and human story is well worth the visit.

“Good place to see in Honolulu but not the most amazing place.”
Reviewed 10 March 2012

It is a nice palace to go and see but that's it. You see it, take pictures and maybe go to the statue nearby of a hawaiian king.

“Great historic sight”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

I loved the architecture of the palace. I took the self guided audio tour, and it was so worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the exterior and interior of the palace. The only downside was that they don't allow any photography (even without flash or video) inside... and they don't really offer many interior pictures at the gift shop either. But it was a truly enjoyable visit.

“A bit of USA History”
Reviewed 8 March 2012

Being from Europe I am used to historic building being all around, this is a little taste of history in the USA. It's great that they are trying to collect all the items that were sold off and return this place back into its former state. However, the palace doesn't measure up if you familiar with the history of Europe.
