Owner description: The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

It is a very beautiful and peaceful place. It is well kept. My
husband is buried there so I visit it every time I am in Hawaii.

“Beautiful National Shrime”
Reviewed 2 March 2012

The Punchbowl is perfectly manicured and maintained by the VA for a resting place for hundreds of fallen heroes. This beautiful cemetery and AMBC momument are definitely worth the short side trip across Honolulu. The view of the ocean and skyline add to the beauty of this hallowed ground. The scale and scope of sacfrice veterans have made in service our of nation sounds and humbles the living. The ABMC monument provides a beautiful pictorial and written history of WWII in the Pacific.

“Quite a place!”
Reviewed 1 March 2012

I'm not much of a military buff but even I really appreciate this place. Even if you're not into the whole war aspect, it's worth a visit if only to look out on the Honolulu skyline from the top of the memorial.

“Beautiful location”
Reviewed 29 February 2012

It was a little hard locating the cemetery, but once we found it it is very beautiful. The location high on the hill and view of Waikiki is breathtaking. The cemetery is well maintained and a lovely resting place for those that have served our country.
