My son and two of my friends wandered around Newport one night and stumbled across this wonderful restaurant.

The waiter was excellent. Attentive, personable and skilled at his craft. He forgot nothing, glasses of water remained unobtrusively filled and plates cleared from the table without fuss and barely noticed.

The food:
The table started with some tasty bread and olive oil. We soon found the menu contained very wide selection of Italian dishes including a large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Though I am not a vegetarian, I lean away from meats when possible and was pleased to find a vegetarian gnocchi dish. Named Gnocchi della Tata, is consisted of the gnocchi, nearly perfect potato dumplings in a sauce Tomato, Capers, Olives, Olive Oil, fresh Basil and Parmesan Cheese. It was truly extraordinary. It can be made vegan by simply asking that the Parmesan cheese be left out.

My son enjoyed the personal pepperoni pizza and his silence during the meal said all that was needed about how good that was!

One of our companions had the Bocconcini di Seitan al Madera. She said it was incredible and remarked on how rare it is to find Seitan on a menu. a Vegan meat substitute, it has a texture similar to veal.

Her companion proclaimed his Ravioli al Ragu' Bolognese "incredible".

The coffee to finish the meal was freshly brewed and properly strong and the chocolate cake enjoyed acclaim from the two member of our party that ordered it and the mango sorbet was also well received.

Top to bottom it was a great evening.

Visited at 6:30 on a Saturday in February, based on its high TA rating. We had reservations and were seated immediately, since the place was only about a third full. We were quickly served hot bread and butter. By 7PM the place was packed. Since there is no place to wait inside and it was freezing outside, people without reservations were being turned away and left. Lucia's is located one flight up. We were given a table in the bay window overlooking Thames Street. We liked the view very much. Unfortunately, the table was near the door, and every time someone went in or out we got a blast of cold air. There were 2 tables even closer than ours. They need to build an enclosed entryway. We ordered a chicken/eggplant parm and a seafood pasta dish. They were both delicious with unique sauces. Unfortunately, the seafood dish used small, tougher bay scallops instead of the larger, more tender, and more flavorful sea scallops. I was surprised to see bay scallops used at a good restaurant. There were also only 3 shrimps on the dish. They were decent, but not particularly large. Another thing we didn't like were the extra charges (3-5 bucks?) for pasta as a side dish to the non-pasta entrees. We declined. We ordered a desert (so so) and 2 cappuccinos (perfect). After eating, we felt satisfied, but there were no leftovers. Including 2 glasses of wine, tax, and tip, the bill came to $91. One thing I need to mention was the service. It was SPECTACULAR. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed to enjoy her job. I noticed another waiter who was treating his customers the same way. Water glasses were constantly being filled without asking. Question: Would I recommend Lucia's to friends or return ourselves? Answer: "I don't know."

I thought if we ate Italian in a tourist area like Newport we would get red sauce and parms. This was far from being the case here. They have a great Northern Italian cuisine on the menu. You can still get your red sauce if you want it. The wine list was extensive and at a reasonable price. The ambience was homey and cozy. The service was great. I would go back again!

Tucked in between shops, Lucia's is a cute little restaurant that serves up a nice meal for a reasonable price. Desserts are also homemade and good. Front table provides an overview of the busy downtown.

Had the Sole with Orange Liqueur. It was like a dream. Make a reservation, its small, a bit cramped and the decor is disappointing.
