We were looking for a unique experience and we found it at Rose Island lighthouse. We stayed in the Wanton Chase room in the museum portion of the property. It was warm, comfortable bed, and really nice for an overnight experience. We loved the rustic charm of the place, pumping our water, etc. The history and the pictures were fascinating. The boat ride to get there, the views, climbing to the top of the lighthouse, the sounds of the birds, all made a wonderful stay.
For longer stays, I would rent the keepers apartment for the convenience of a shower, refrigerator and cooking. In addition, if you stay in the museum, day visitors have access to your quarters, so be prepared for that. We knew this going before our stay so we were prepared. In the summer, 12-14 people may share the island as they rent out various rooms, so be prepared for company.
If these conditions are acceptable to you, go ahead and stay there. We are really glad we did.
