Campanilla Compound
Reviewed 27 July 2010

We have been staying at Campanilla Compound once a year (sometimes renting more than one unit for family) for more than 16 years. The place itself is lovely. However, the "new" manager is not an asset to this property (this is a quarter share property). Last year she switched our condo (we've also stay in the same one. Or if that wasn't available we were given a choice of others) without asking us if this was okay. By the time we got there there was nothing we could do ("ours" was rented out already).

This year we were supposed to be there this week. However, our dog (13) is dying and we had to cancel. We figured we'd go back around the holidays (in fact, I've already made a reservation at another place). The website clearly states that if you cancel 7 days (we cancelled 7 days in advance) or less you have to pay for one night. That's fair. Instead, this "manager" told us we'd have to pay for the entire stay (5 nights at nearly $1500). I have, of course, disputed this with my credit card company. Even the confirmation we received by email doesn't say you have to pay for the entire stay if you cancel.

We loved the previous manager, Marilyn. She was a real people person and always made us feel like we were part of the CC community. This "new" woman, didn't even take the time to introduce herself to us last year (and our condo -- the one we didn't ask for -- was directly across from her office).

If you reserve at CC, be careful. This is no longer a "people" first place. I'm sure the homeowners (they are the ones that get most of the fees) would not be happy to know that this manager is treating longtime guests in this manner (as longtime guests -- at least this one -- will never go there again).

What's especially sad is that the place is just beautiful, and we have loved staying there (before last year) for so many years. But things change.

Campanilla values all comments and feedback about our property and customner service. We take each concern seriously. We have made positive changes to our cancellation policy and we are sorry if the guest was unhappy with the end result. We hope to continue our good standing and continue serving the many guests that have been coming to our property for the past 25 years. We value all of our guests, new or long time guests. I would encourage DeborahPub to contact me at Campanilla so we can discuss and resolve her concerns. We hate to lose such a valuable customer.

We recently returned from a week in Santa Fe where we stayed at Campanilla Compound. We found it immaculate, tastefully decorated, and within walking distance to the Plaza. We've stayed in a casita before and various hotels nearby, but this was our favorite. We had a cozy two bedroom with two balconies. The kitchen had everything we needed and was generously supplied. We will definitely stay here again! I highly recommend it, especially if you want quiet and privacy.

Campanilla Compound has a good location, just outside the Paseo and within walking distance to many of the downtown and Canyon Road galleries and restaurants. We had a large 2 bedroom, 3 bath unit with charming private courtyards, a nice living room, and a full kitchen. It was very quiet there. No AC but we didn't need it even though the daytime temp went to the high 80's. Could be warm at night in a west-facing bedroom in July or August, though. Furnishings, towels, and dishes were nice; wood beams, high ceilings and fireplaces were charming. Bathrooms would have benefitted from nicer shower curtains, floor tile repair, and additional toiletries (soap only provided). As long as you don't expect hotel amenities or a pool, this is a great place to stay close in, in Santa Fe.

My wife and I took a quick trip down to Santa Fe for the weekend where we stayed at the Campanilla Compound (Unit #1). If you are looking for a romantic, private place to stay in Santa Fe; this is it.

Our first impressions were consistent through out the trip. We had a small, 1 BDR unit with a nicely equipped kitchen, bedroom, two bathrooms (with shower or tub), sitting room, patio (with grill), a private patio off of the master and a private locked entry from the compound. A supermarket is two miles away.

Versus a normal hotel room, this was superb. Furnishings were either antique or new/nice. The back patio is small, but well sized to allow for a table and four chairs. It is also private and quiet enough that one read a book and enjoy the morning sun. For the time, it is a private oasis in the middle of the city.

As a location, it cannot be beat - three blocks from the main city square - access to galleries, the plaza, restaurants, etc.

The only short coming was that the facility is showing its age in some places. For example, the gas oven is an older model and the registers are popping out of the floors. That said, it is clean and tidy.

The polished perfection of the Ritz it is not. However, if you need solitude, access and you want to curl up with a book and a pot of coffee on your own (rented) deck, this is a nice place to stay. I know we will.

You will be thrilled with this private resort. Actually time-share condos that are available to rent if owners aren't using them. We want comfort and quality when we travel, usually willing to pay a bit more. We were thrilled with Campanilla Compound (stayed in #3). Charming inside and out, full kitchen, fireplaces in livingroom and bedroom, large private patios, BBQ, all the comforts. Prices seemd reasonable, too. They do most of their business by word of mouth, which probably keeps them very busy. Enjoy.
