Our first impression of this hotel was great, free parking right near to the water and a beautiful reception filled with flowers.
When we got to the room in had a tiny window, dark wood furniture, felt cramped dark and dingy, with an AC unit from the 70s cluncking and clanking. As we were only staying for one night and the visit was about seeing the town we decided to put up with it and go out to dinner.
When we returned the Regatta bar outdoor area looked really comforatble with the fire lamps lit and the fit pit on, we enjoyed 2 amazing cocktails served by a chatty and friendly cocktail maker, at 11pm we went back to the room.
When we pulled back the sheets to get into bed, the bottom sheet had not been changed since the last occupants. Hair and other debris was all over the sheet which was crumpled and clearly used. Shocked & horrified we called down to reception who promptly moved us without fuss. However, had we been unpacked or staying longer for one night this change would have been far more difficult.
The issue was dealt with as well as possible, but surely, the issue should not have occurred at all!
When we check out we got a cursory "Sorry about that" and sent on our way.
Breakfast was equally shocking with a waitress who was huffing and puffing her way through her shift, no smiles, no chat and she even got our order wrong, we didnt challenge it, by this stage we just wanted to leave.

Booked this hotel as it is advertised as being near the waterfront which shops and activities but although it is near the waterfront there isn't much to do around the hotel. Stayed on a Monday evening and when we went out to explore most of the shops were closing although it was only 6 PM and two of the restaurants we stopped at had stopped serving altogether. The hotel has a fabulous reception and parking directly in front of the hotel but the room that we had although clean and roomy was dark and very outdated. Although well maintained the décor is very 1980's and needs updating.. Pool was warm nut also needs updating. It is nothing like it appears in the hotel photos. This is a mid range hotel but we felt it was quite standard and not very good value fr the money.

We only stayed the one night and it was a very good experience. We would have given 5 stars, but we were not impressed with the noise of the air conditioning. It was a mobile one and it made a terrible noise. It was too warm to turn it off. Husband had to put earplugs in!! But everything else was great. Location is great, walking distance to most things you want to see in Salem. The ladies at the reception were very nice and friendly. The large bed was so comfortable and we liked the bathroom area as well.

What an amazing hotel, well positioned and well maintained building and grounds. We had a suite on the third floor, a huge room filled with everything you needed to enjoy your stay. Coffee and cookies in reception go on to demonstrate the attention to detail of customer service. Nice restaurant for breakfast and dinner if you're free. We can recommend the bar area outside with fire pits and quiet atmosphere.

This may not be the worst hotel I’ve stayed in, but it is a contender. The check-in process was chaotic. The room (431) was dark with a wonderful view of the parking lot. The worst thing was the air conditioning. The room had an old console unit that you might find in a budget motel in a small town. It was noisy at best and each time the condenser would kick it it emitted a loud buzzy noise. It proved impossible to sleep with this so we turned it off about 1 AM. One phone didn’t work and on the other we couldn’t reach the front desk.

The hotel is well located, next to the Pickering Wharf complex.
