My brother Mike and I were referred to Kirks Flyshop in Estes Park, CO by a friend in Connecticut. We requested Mike Caldwell as our Guide well in advance. On the 26th of May (2012) we drove from Evergreen (West of Denver) up past Boulder to Estes Park for a six-hour fish-packed stream flyfishing experience. Mike took us to the Upper Big Thompson in RMNP, a lower portion of the Big Thompson, under the footbridge in Estes Lake and , finally, to the Cheley Beaver Ponds for the "big" ones. With Mike's guidance, we hooked into enough fish to tire us out at the end of the trip. Flies we used were so small that they couldn't be seen on the water! This was difficult technical fishing made easy by the Guide. We wholeheartedly recomment connecting with Kirks Flyshop &Mountain Adventures for short trips, packing adventures and - if rock or mountain climbing is your "thing" - ask for Mike Caldwell. We're looking forward to our next visit out there, and another trip out - maybe longer this time!
