“Fantastic property, a must see resort”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

The Grand Wailea is a fantastic resort with an absolute best location on Maui. The resort grounds make it difficult to venture off the property. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable but do not deserve bragging rights; the carpet could use updating or periodic cleaning. The room views do not disappoint though. The pool and poolside activities are without rival; kids and adults will love the pool and not want to leave; for those 21 and older the Grotto is the place to be. The food and amenities are first rate, while the staff does all they can to see to it that you are enjoying yourself. Overall, the property is world class. However, world class comes at a very steep price. Be prepared for shocking prices, as noted in the other reviews. A modest breakfast for two adults will set you back $50 or so; drinks and snacks poolside could set you back $100; dinner is off the hook, $130 - $200 depending on where you go. Make no mistake that the prices you pay supports the fantastic grounds, pool, and service. I would give this resort a five except the prices put it out of reach for many families.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean; rooms are offered in many price points; air conditioning and fans do a nic...

The Grand Wailea was absolutely amazing! The drive to/from the airport is short but beautiful. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The spa is phenomenal with the different baths...great massage, mani/pedi and facial. Restaurants were great and there were a lot of nearby options at other hotels. The cave bar was a blast...not to mention the insane water slide. We spent most of the time on the grass - right between the pools and the beach so it was the best of both worlds. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We attended a luau and the food was great and entertainment was even better. Highly recommend the sunrise trip to Mt. Haleakala...breath taking! We drove along the coast to some of the nearby beaches and town and watch the surfers, stopped at a road juice stand and did some shopping. One of the best trips ever. When you think of paradise, Maui is it and Grand Wailea definitely helped make a perfect vacation.

it is truly a beautiful property and we knew coming into it it would be pricey, but some of the prices are just ridiculous. Bagel- $13.00, cold cereal in $8.00. I don't care how wealthy you are - you feel taken advantage of. You must get to breakfast buffet before 8:00 a.m or forget it-and if you want a pool chair.......that is a whole different story. The pool and beach were so crowded it just takes all the fun out of it. I am so glad we stayed here but, I won't come back . We paid over 700 per night so a pool chair would have been nice.

Room Tip: 7th floor ocean view was beautiful. Maintenance noise starts early.

My husband and I got married here. It was an excellent experience but would we stay here again? No, we would stay at the Wailea Beach Villas right next door to this beautiful hotel. Don't get me wrong the hotel and grounds were amazing! The views were spectacular but we were disappointed when it came to the rooms themselves. We could hear the lady right above us walking around in high heels and a lot of people host various events here, which caused a lot of late night noise and the beds were way too soft for my back.
It is great to come and enjoy the grounds for an event but for an actual stay I wouldn't recommend it especially for how much they charge a night. Meals were of course very pricey, but that was to be expected.
However, they did make our wedding night very special by putting flowers on the bed and had champagne chilled on ice in a bucket and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us. If you are thinking about getting married here I would highly recommend it! The Salon was awesome as well!

This hotel is stunning. Views are gorgeous, gardens are lush, beach is wide and the chairs comfy. This was our second visit.

We had a suite which was phenomenal. Food was good, breakfast at Humu's was great with that view. Pools wer definitely packed, it was hard to find chairs and one day I had to si in an upright chair on the beach. Lunch at the pool restaurant was great - on both days we ate there - with good service.

I also think the resort is too big in many ways - expect your walk to the beach to be long!

One major issue affects my rating: we had a major mix up with room service where they overcharged us AFTER taking 2+ hours to bring our drinks. It was entirely their fault. I had to make about 5 phone calls/waste about 1 hour to resolve it - even though he issue had 'been taken care of' the day before. When I am spending nearly $400 for one room service bill, I expect prompt resolution - or even a token of appreciation for our patience. None of that happened. It really put a damper on our stay when I had to start from the beginning again to resolve it as we left the hotel en route to the airport.

Room Tip: Decide if you want a long walk through the gardens to get to the pool/beach!
