Viewing Rosalie after seeing Stanton was rather disappointing. However, Rosalie has an unique history that you don't want to miss.

We caught the last tour of the day and perhaps that explains a bit of this.

First, there are no prices listed online for the cost of the tour and none are easily visible in the gift shop. It was $16 per adult. This was only the 3rd house we've ever toured, but that was more than we've paid before.

We had about 6-8 people in our group. Our tour went quickly and barely lasted 30 minutes. It was informative, but it felt a bit rushed. Perhaps it's up to the people in the group to ask more questions, I'm not sure.

There seems to be an interesting story about the people who built the house. I read about most of it in a tour guide book for Natchez and that was the reason we selected this house as one we wanted to tour. However, upon getting there, the people who built it and their story was barely mentioned. The other family was interesting and I'm glad we learned about them.

There is a bell from a naval ship (USS Mississippi) in the courtyard and you are allowed to ring it. That was pretty neat and since it's supposed to be good luck to ring it, we did. (Ring softly. We pulled the rope harder than we meant and it was almost too much.)

The grounds are beautiful. There's a beautiful view overlooking the MS River. Take time to enjoy that.

One of the most fascinating pieces of information we learned was about the role of this house in the Civil War and the general (?) who stayed in the house. It came towards the end of the tour as there is a photo of him in one of the bedrooms.

We didn't know how long the tour would last and thought the price high to walk through a house. Boy, were we wrong! The tour was a full hour long, but the guides were so well informed and had interesting stories to tell that the time passed by quickly. The home is beautiful, with many original furnishings, china, and decor. In each room, our guide showed us unique pieces and told us interesting stories about the family. We loved it. If you have time to see only one house, this is the one.

I'm sure Rosalie has several tour guides, but the woman who led our tour was outstanding. She pointed out details about furniture and objects that we would never have noticed on our own. Every detail we asked about, from pictures to china, she was able to tell us about.

We visited Rosalie on the Spring Pilgrimage Tour in Natchez. It is a beautiful home & we love the preservation of these lovely places.
I wish, however, that the tour guides would speak louder or wear a microphone to help those who are hard of hearing.
