This gem was such a terrific find. It became my ritual while we were in MIll Valley to walk from our cottage rental to Depot Bookstore & Cafe for coffee, breakfast sandwich and a browse through the bookstore. The store area, while small, is packed with interesting and excellent local and bestselling/award winning reads and other interesting items.

I definitely recommend the breakfast sandwich (scrambled eggs, bacon and provolone) on a croissant that is slightly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside just the right ratio of bread to sand which ingredients.

We also stopped by on a Sunday afternoon (they are open 7 days a week 7 to 7) and listened to some street corner music for a small festival -- seating in available inside and out. Can't say enough wonderful things about this independent book seller and eatery. Can't wait until we can get back.

Great place for breakfast through lunch hour to grab a bite. New owners took over recently so the menu has been revamped. They have a wonderful Italian pastry selection. Sit outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. Menu offerings: salads, soups, quiche, sandwiches for lunch. Breakfast: eggs, bagels, muffins, granola. Lots of beverages. The historic Mill Depot and Cafe also has a bookstore inside.

This is probably one of the best bookstores in California, nestled in a sleepy little town (sadly yuppized) surrounded by majestic redwoods and torn up streets. But worth checking out. It's small but eclectically stimulating selection is wonderful to look though as you wait for the special being prepared at the cafe. Always a treat to sit outside and enjoy the sounds of the square. Music wafts in from the least expected sources. A must stop, an a sad salute to Robin Williams.

I was in Mill Valley to pick up something and was starving!! Drove around town, CUTE town BTW! Happened to end up at the Plaza and get parking. You have to pay for parking all days of the week, just to let u know. Some cities let u slide on Sundays. Decided to try the Depot Café. VERY busy place around 12 noon! Had the prosciutto Panini. Good, but VERY dry, needed mayo or some kind of creamy sauce. Ran me $9 bucks, would have been nice if that included a side of something like chips or small salad. The pastries they had looked GREAT!

We were to here meet a friend and enjoyed a scone and cup of coffee before hand.
It is a bustling place and you might have to wait to have your order filled but it is worth the wait and you can browse books while you wait.
