“Very Good”
Reviewed 10 July 2005

It was wonderful being able to see the Mt. Rushmore from the different vantage points along the trail. As I told my daughter at one point, "I can see right up thier noses!" The trail was in excellant condition. One side of the trail is wheel chair accessable and might be best for small children. We did not realize this, however, and started out on the side with LOTS of steps! None the less our 6-year-old and 3-year-old did not complain too much, and there were lots of spots to stop an rest along the way. I would reccommend that everyone who visits Mt. Rushmore should take this trail.

“Mt Rushmore, Up Close on the Presidential Trail”
Reviewed 2 September 2002

Mt Rushmore is indeed breathtaking from a distance and tere are many vantage points throughout the surrounding area to enjoy.

On the other hand, the relatively new (about 5 years) Presidential Trail allows visitors a great opportunity to walk right underneath it and enjoy a close-up view.

Made from Trex, material now often used for decks, the Trail is similiar to a boardwalk that contains designated vantage points with tablets explainging certain facts about the President's represented above you

The Presidentail Trail is well worthdoing and is easy for anyone. With binoculars, you are practically standing on their faces.

As an aside, the Black Hills of South Dakota (where Mt Rushmore is located)offers plenty to do beyond simply viewing the monument . . . there's cavers and caves, a gold mine, an 1880's train, the Badlands, Custer State Park, real cowboy towns like Deadwood and the Crazy Horse monument. While there are only 5 scenic byways designated by th federal goivernment, two of them exist in this area.

Highly recommend this vacation for scenery, history, nature and entertainment.
