Owner description: This key Civil War battlefield marked the last push north by Confederates in 1864. Although it's seen as a confederate victory, this advance on Washington, D.C. was brought to a hault by the forces led by Major General Lew Wallace, U.S. Army.

I enjoyed the one and only visitor center. The battlefield is spread out over several sites, which we visited. The rangers or volunteers were very helpful. Our visit lasted about three hours.

Although Monocacy isn't as well known as other battles, the significance is no less important. With the South marching towards Washington DC. This battle helped the North to delay the advance. The strategy of Gen. Lee didn't quite work out the way he had hoped. With the North pushing the south back into Virginia, Washington was saved. At the visitor center be sure and watch the battle unfold with a topographical map with lighted troop movements. On the battlefield visit points of interest and landmarks. I was through Frederick Md. years ago and had know idea this battlefield existed. I'm glad my second time through I did know about it and you will too.

I’ve lived in Maryland most of my life but never been to Monocacy. So while I was visiting my family this time around, this was on my list of things to do. I really appreciated the map upstairs with the lights to tell what happened when and where. It’s a lot like the one that was in Gettysburg but much smaller.
I did the auto tour. The route definitely could have been marked better and one of the stops was blocked off. It would also be nice if there was an audio version, but I still enjoyed it!

I am a huge civil war buff and love visiting battlefields! This one although small is big in offering interesting things to see. The actual field is somewhat still there as a grassy land, field and farmers type fields but modern era crap also has a place. The gem here is in the 4 houses still standing from the era of the battle here. Closed to the public looking in the windows of these houses reveal old and worn interiors in various stages of repair. It would be amazing of the US Parks could fix these enough to allow public access. Just looking at the outside is breath taking and awesome but to see the inside would be WOW. It will not take too long to drive the 5-stop tour and view the museum at the battlefield's tour office. It is a great afternoon filler and a must see for history lovers!

A lesser known, but still importany battle of the Civil War. If you are in the area the visitor center is very helpful, and gives a good overview of the battle upstairs. There is a short driving tour you can do (5 stops), to see some of the sites as well.
