I would have liked to keep this Secret Retreat to myself but that would not be fair on the hosts who looked after me so well. If you want to find a quiet space in glorious surroundings look no further. Spending time in Lake Nagratin with all the fish swimming round me was a memorable experience and not to be missed
If you want to do something a little different, in a beautiful part of the world surrounded by breath taking views and wonderful people then this place is for you. Let's start with the cave itself...
I really didn't know what to expect; when you think about stopping in a cave, you expect a dark, cramped sort of space- the cave certainly isn't that. It bright, modern and quirky and, most of all, comfortable. I slept like a baby and never felt too hot ( despite being in the mid thirties during the day- it stayed cool in the cave). The bathroom just outside the room is beautiful adding that luxurious feel that I certainly didn't expect. Both the cave and the bathroom were spotless and furnished to a high standard.
Outside the cave is a lovely tiled seating area ( a fantastic sun trap as well) with a view to die for. The sun sets are spectacular- perfect to watch whilst sipping the local wine, which I did frequently when I was there.
Clive and Allan are fantastic hosts, down to earth and very helpful. They only moved out there in 2016 themselves, but they have obviously done their research and are knowledgable about places to visit in the local area. My friend and I visited new places every day during our stay, there is so much to do from fresh mountain water spa days, beautiful waterfall walks, days out by the beautiful near by lake, biking, hiking ( if that's what you enjoy), ancient burial sites explorations to days out in the near by cities and beach resorts. If that's all too much, just sit back and enjoy the views surrounding the cave house- I wasn't bored for a minute.
The near by town Baza is lovely. It has a number of shops, bars and restaurants to visit and, in this part of Spain your euro goes much further than in your typical Spanish holiday resorts. The people of the town are very friendly and, despite the fact that English isn't widely understood, they are helpful and patient enough for you to get your point across.
I only stayed a week but wished it was much longer. I felt like we'd only scratched the surface of the treasures on offer in this part of Spain and I certainly fell in love with it. Would I go back? In a heartbeat- -and I am, in May 2017, and I can't wait!
Don't hesitate to book this place, you'll love it!
I stayed here for ten days in September, 17th to 27th. It was very peaceful and the hospitality from Clive and Allan the owners was second to none! Really feels like home from home!! Great continental breakfast.
The room is spotlessly clean, comfortable beds and so peaceful, lots of things to see and do, there is a beautiful lake a short drive away in Freila with a fab restaurant its well worth a visit, lots of beautiful walks, and Baza town with lots of shops bars restaurants is 5 minutes drive away. If you fancy a dip there is a hotel close by where you can use the pool or just sit on your private patio and soak up the sun. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone!!!
