I was so glad that I had the opportunity to visit this place. It was very informative and I learned alot. I went the the museum that was on site and moved to the church, fire station and then the home. It was a great experience a great place for kids to learn.

“Very moving and inspiring.”

Martin Luther King's words are always so moving and inspiring. Here his words are spoken, written and surrounded by his life history. Allow enough time to immerse yourself in it!

“Learn about the man who changed the history of the United States.”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

When I knew I would be traveling to Atlanta, this was the place I most wanted to see. The visitor center exhibits were outstanding, and although there was a lot of reading an attempt has been made to summarize each section at a child's level of comprehension. We watched one of the movies available and walked around the area; past the tombs and MLK's birthplace.

You need to reserve a space to go inside the old building of Ebenezer Church, and inside the house where MLK was born.

The history of the surrounding Sweet Auburn area was interesting too. The area is well signposted from the interstate.

If you are with a child, do not miss the firehouse exhibit.

“A must see while visiting Atlanta”
Reviewed 27 February 2012

This is a fairly new museum built near Dr. King's church in downtown Atlanta. Plan on spending a few hours here.

“A tour over the Atlanta's past....”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

The Auburn Avenue itself and the contiguous blocks in all four directions comprise the Martin Luther King National Historic District, an area of almost 70 acres. The area is a sort of time machine that drives visitors straight into Atlanta's early 20's and 30's historic and turbulent social past.
The lots of houses, fully original and nicely preserved and maintained, are scattered over a net of long, but narrow, winding streets and some avenues. Yet some modernity is blooming around, the nucleus of the historic district, which is a large area, is immaculately untouched by time.
Stop by and go for a walk. Enjoy the Ebenezer Baptist Church church where Dr. King preached, visit the Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Inc, just across from the church or simply enjoy the housing architecture long gone and, on Sundays, people elegantly dressed leaving the surrounding churches services by mid-morning before heading back somewhere. Better visit the district on weekends - Sunday morning is perfect - for its peacefulness and lack of car traffic.
