Owner description: This extraordinary zoo, one of the oldest in the U.S., underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in the 1980s and is still expanding. Its landscaping replicates the natural habitats of the numerous animals, some of which are endangered species. Four panda bears from China delight the crowds, and groups of gorillas separated by moats do their own share of entertaining.

I really enjoyed my trip to the zoo. There are lots of animals and they arent shy.. it was a little crowded. The zoo staff very knowledgeable. We ate at one of the restaurants inside of the zoo the food was tasty also.

Do not go, unless you have kids under 3 and you pay less than 10$. Horrible conditions for animals, cage too small, extreme heat with no comfort for most of the animal. Just terrible. Please do not go and waist your time and money and on top of that help them keep this horrible place open.

Thank you for your visit. We’re sorry you found your visit to be disappointing. Your feedback is very different from most reviews we typically receive from guests, so we’d like to take an opportunity to provide additional information that may be helpful. Numerous improvements have been made to the Zoo and continue to be made, most notably the new Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience, a 2.2-acre, $18 million complex housing more than 70 species in over 65 habitats. Scaly Slimy Spectacular is the world’s first LEED Gold-certified reptile and amphibian exhibit and is already a winner of one national and two regional awards. Our next exciting transformation, the Grand New View project, opening in early 2019, will include a significantly expanded African elephant habitat, a new African savanna and a one-of-a-kind special events center. We’re very excited about all that’s happening at the Zoo, now and in the future, and hope you’ll keep up to date with us and visit again.

I had planned a three hour visit at the zoo and paid $32 + tax for adult admission, plus the cost to get there as there is no public transportation to this area. I really wanted to spend a bit of time visiting with the twin pandas that are marketed all over the city! Not only was the panda exhibit disappointing, but overall the whole zoo took less than an hour to visit.

Many of the exhibits were closed for renovation, so no animals. In other areas there were no renovation signs but no animals to be found. After reviewing my map roughly 15 of 32 exhibits were closed or had no animals. The children's petting zoo had only goats and several families struggled to find the entrance. In the Atlanta heat you had to wait over 15 minutes for a train ride, one train was sitting idle.

The zoo is in rough shape and the staff was not friendly at all, very little engagement with guests. The zoo is in need of a sprucing up and for the cost of admission, everything should be spotless and in full working order. The only animals that were moving around were the giraffes as they were being fed some lettuce leaves at a cost of $3 for 2 leaves. The other animals like the tiger and lions were seeking shelter from the heat.

When visiting the panda exhibit, only one twin was out in their area. All other areas were empty and I understand one of the pandas is pregnant so she was not out. The second twin that was out spent most of her time with her back to us as she peered into the door grid, perhaps looking for her sister; anyhow she was totally preoccupied.

The aquarium cost only a few $$ more and families will truly enjoy that experience. I will not return unless there is a major overhaul of the exhibits and zoo.

We try to visit Zoo Atlanta once a year when we visit family. The animals are all in very nice and clean habitats and appear very healthy. There are many spots to get a close look at them. The zoo has a nice flow that makes it easy to see everything. There is plenty of shade to get out of the sun. It is very affordable and they except AAA and other discounts. Definitely worth a visit.
