“Wonderful experience during Wassail Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 December 2011

Charlotte and Cary are welcoming, attentive and thoughtful innkeepers. The inn is homey and comfortable. The location is convenient, right in Woodstock Village. Coffee, tea and snacks are always available. The breakfasts are sumptuous. The rooms are clean, comfortable, each based on a theme of Charlotte's favorite authors. Price is reasonable and competitive with other village inns. Strongly recommended.

My husband and I had stayed at the Woodstock Inn & Resort for four nights, but could not get a room for the fifth night as it was peak tourist season. So we booked our final night at Ardmore Inn just down the street, and honestly, I wish we'd stayed there instead our whole time in Woodstock.

Charlotte and Cary Hollingsworth run this lovely little house with (I think) three guest rooms, each thoughtfully decorated and named after a literary figure. We stayed in the Archer Mayor room -- Archer Mayor is a Vermont-based writer who pens crime novels set in sleepy Vermont. Over the fireplace in our room was an entire collection of his books — all signed by the author. Turns out Charlotte, a SoCal native, used to run an independent bookstore. Which would explain the massive reading room next to the dining hall where wall-to-wall shelves of books entice anyone too lazy to wander out on a chilly Woodstock night. For this season, Charlotte even put out displays of her best Halloween reads.

The room is more than comfortable, with designer Egyptian cotton sheets and all the necessary amenities (including a lip balm - how thoughtful). If there is a single complaint I have, it is only that the ceiling is a low slope and every time I got out of bed I dinged my head.

The whole point of staying at Ardmore Inn is for Charlotte's amazing sit-down breakfast. On the morning we were there she served a four-course breakfast starting with a poached apple with whipped cream, a handmade scone (best I've ever had), your main course - which you have to mark out on a little sheet the night before, whether you want eggs or oatmeal - followed by dessert! (Yes, dessert for breakfast, how can you resist?) which turned out to be a perfectly-sized scoop of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia (Vermont's finest, of course).

Charlotte and Cary are the perfect hosts — they are there when you need them, and when you don't they have mastered the art of being invisible in view. Charlotte might peep in while you are reading a book by the fire in the library, nibbling on her turtlebar and sipping her spiced cider, but you never feel like you need to look up from your book.

All in an awesome stay - wish we had more time. I would recommend Ardmore Inn to any couple headed for Woodstock.

Very friendly and nice B&B, never ending, wonderful breakfast - lovely decorated house and a very helpful owner - every room has the name of a writer and looks different - we were in a big room with fireplace in the back (only few noises of the street) - a really nice place to stay for one or many nights

We stayed here for 4 nights on the 3rd part of our New England trip. This is our first trip to Vermont and Woodstock doesn't disappoint. It's a lovely little town, and exactly what you would expect. Lots of little shops and restaurants selling homemade wares etc Even though it's still 3 weeks until Halloween there are pumpkins and harvest corn everywhere! Very charming.

The Inn itself is very nice both inside and out and the inside decoration is quite modern without being too much so and still remains in keeping with the rest of the house. We had the 'Archer Mayor' room on the 2nd floor which was very nice and big with a faux fireplace, chairs and a desk. The bed was quite large and very comfy.

Charlotte the main host was very nice and welcoming and has lots of enthusiam for the area and things to do. I'm sure anything you would want to know she would be able to tell you. There are also lots of flyers, ideas for things to do just inside the front door. The Inn also has free Wifi which was very strong and fast and we made good use of it.

I have marked it down just for a few reasons. None of the rooms have a TV and personally I would always like one. I have it on even when not watching anything just for background noise etc.

The breakfast, although very nice, plentiful and homemade is eaten communally around one table. This is obviously purely my own view but I didn't like this and it spolit my enjoyment of it. I'm not a morning person, so to have to sit around a table with a load of strangers and attempt to engage in small talk is not my idea of a good time. I would have preferred my own space.

Being an old building it is obviously not soundproofed so we could hear most clanks, bangs and chatter from goings on downstairs, the adjacent rooms as well as the traffic noise which is fairly extensive. Ear plugs are provided in the room which helps.

Overall it was a pleasant stay but perhaps not for me.

Although Vermont and Woodstock suffered significant damage during the recent floods, Vermont is definitely "open for business" although you may have to take an occasional detour. The Ardmore Inn is exactly what you expect from a B&B. Quaint and a little bit old fashioned, but with all the comforts of home. There are only five rooms, all equipped with a double bed and private bathrooms, so your house guests will probably be singles or couples. The rooms are very comfortable and all have free WiFi. There's a comfortable lounge and library which makes a nice place to sit and read the newspaper or a book. There are no televisions in the lounge or in the bedrooms, which makes a nice change of pace. Tea and coffee are available 24/7 and Charlotte puts out cookies and cider in the afternoon. In the morning, she serves a magnificent breakfast - perhaps the best I have ever eaten, which starts with fresh fruit and end with ice cream (Ben & Jerry's of course). The only problem with the breakfast is that you won't want to eat again until dinner, but perhaps that's a good thing !
