The Woodstock Farmers Market located just West of the town center, is an unassuming building along the water. But inside it is a tightly stocked & edited selection of items, from basic and specialty ingredients, to products from local Vermont producers, to prepared foods and sandwiches.
I've been here twice and had delicious (large!) sandwiches, that would be fine to share for all but the hungriest of travelers. Though I haven't tried the prepared foods, they look excellent and were being dished out at lunch time at a good clip. The menu skews a little adventurous, so there's probably one ingredient on each sandwich that a picky eater or kid (is that redundant?) might not enjoy. But I get the impression that they would gladly omit or substitute items if requested.
The locally produced baked goods and cheeses looked great, and the samples that I hit (more than once, I admit) while waiting for my sandwiches to be made were top-notch. The meats in the case were ready for their close-up in a food magazine.
This is not the cheapest sandwich place (mostly in the $7-10 range), but the ingredients are excellent quality and the portions are generous. If you wanted to get food to go for a picnic, a meal in your room, or something to eat on the road as you sadly leave beautiful Woodstock behind, this is absolutely the place you want to hit. Worth it!
