I arrived at the ridiculously early hour for Portugal of about 7.20pm for dinner at this restaurant. It is discreet, very unpretentious, very nice and run by an older couple as is often the case he. He looks after the front suff while she does the cooking. He was really helpful in making suggrestions and not pushing anything in particular and certainly not the more expensive items on the menu of which there were a few including lobster.
It was very clear that he was reall interested in what he was doing and knew a lot about fish and what is good.
I settled for whelks in a very good vinagrette, which was essentially REALLY GOOD olive oil with a squeeze of lemon through it. One eats whelks more for texture that for tase and these were really lovely. I then had red sea bream which was excellent. It was selling at €45 a kg and the piece I had was about 350-400 gr which was plenty and really good. Simple accompaniment of potato ans veg in olive oil. Dessert was a very nice little homeade orange which was also excellent. Sparkling water, I don't drink wine, nice coffee.
The manager was extremely pleasant and not at all push, doing a job he loved and was very good at. €37 all inc for an excellent dinner was very goods value in the quality/price register. Highly recommended
