We were very apprehensive about staying here because of the reviews.. We emailed hotel and were reassured. We returned on 27th after a lovely week at the hotel. Food is good with a few choices plus salad bar... If u can't find something to suit you are too fussy. Room lovely on fifth floor clean towels no problem, bedsheets changed every other day.. Non stop air-conditioning it was not on a timer. Staff very helpful and pleasant... 4 star accommodation abroad is not the same as 4 star in UK...the Canifor we stayed in is 3 star... We had a luvly week in scorching sunshine... Thank you

I was disappointed as the room was not up to standard. Noise air conditioning and the bathroom was inadequate with a poor shower sometimes with no hot water for a shower and it takes ages to fill a bath as the water comes out very slowly and the bath was stained, the toilet did not flush properly. The Canifor make a charge for hiring towels for the pool and also remote control and safe in the room. The outside and inside pool areas are very small. The gym was very small and only one machine was working and no air conditioning, it was really bad. The restaurant area was very crowded and the meals were similar each night and not that nice and also not enough seating for 5 people together. The hotel entertainment was not very good and suitable for older people only and not for children. Unfortunately, I don't rate this a 4 star hotel and would only give it at best a 3 rating. The hotel location was excellent and near the bus station.

Room Tip: Nicer rooms are looking out to the pool and not the front of the hotel.

just got back from Malta and stayed at the Canifor hotel in Qawra, average hotel, basic meals and pleasant staff, wifi is chargeable but doesn't last as long as it should, salty water in the pool and scum line on tiles, it's in desperate need of a revamp as it looks outdated, the pigeons kept pooing on my balcony, air conditioning in the room needs attention, apologetic when I had no room available on my arrival, all sorted in the morning though. Good breakfast, beds changed regularly and nice housekeeper, very good for shops and bars and to the bus terminal. Overall I rate it at 7/10 .... It does need a revamp and the pigeons need shooting... Oh and some staff didn't respond with a good night when I offered it.

Room Tip: Inland rooms are good, watch out for the pigeons though

We Stayed here end of march and into the beginning of April, this year as a couple with a 16 year old son.We had already looked at this hotel while staying at another the previous year so we decided to give it a try, so here goes my review.
When we checked into the hotel we were offered an upgrade to the sister hotel *The Coral* if we went for the all inclusive package free of charge. We booked this hotel because we wanted to stay here so we kindly refuse and asked to be booked in.
After a fuss free check in we were given the key to our room and were told how to get there. We were given room 321 that overlooked the pool and we were delighted with it. It was clean, and had enough space for all three of us not to trip over each other. What we didn't know at the time was we could have asked at the time of booking for a family room with a connecting door, so our son and us could have our privacy.
We were happy to stay where we were as it was a nice location. The room maids were very nice and came in everyday to make the beds and change the towels and replace toilet rolls, they always smiled and said hello.
The reception staff were great even though they were stressed out at the fact there was an island full of teenagers at a rave at the same time, and always said hello and had a smile too.
I have to point out however for those of you taking kids with you that there was a charge for the internet so please budget that into your stay so as not to be disappointed. This is common place in most of the hotels on the island. As guests demand more and more for their money maybe some day it will be included for free.
The hotel is very nice and very very clean and boasted an indoor and outdoor pool, which for us was a big advantage and another reason we booked it. It has 2 pool tables downstairs beside the dining room and snack bar.
It also has a good sized bar and entertainment area and there was entertainment every night.
The outdoor pool was freezing cold so we used the indoor pool and Jacuzzi most of the time until there seemed to be a problem with a smell in the water that smelt like sewage water.
Management was informed of this and they closed the pool down straight away, to their credit they were fast about it.
We were half board and i must admit the food was pretty good and we ate very well each morning and night. Ok the food was mainly Maltese Made but it was still lovely, plenty to choose from. I heard people moaning about the food but if you want western food don't go abroad book Blackpool.
There stood out for us entertainment wise a little guy calling himself Denny D Veto, he was so funny and had the crowd in the palm of his hand including our 16 year old Cameron. He really knows how to get a crowd going.
We also discovered the sun roof where there was a Jacuzzi, but it wasn't on at the time we were there.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely look at this one again.
It is very close to all the amenities, and a two minute walk to the beach front and promenade, leading you to Buggiba Square. Shops, Car Museum and bus station are right next to you.
Three members of staff stood out during our stay, Tony the Bar man (sooo funny) One of the night porters sorry cant remember his name and Janelle Tonna one of the receptionists, she always had time to say hello and had a smile.

There is no way this is a four star hotel, more like 2.5 stars!! The standard of cleaning was very low, the rooms were not thoroughly cleaned. Someone threw cigarette ends onto our balcony on the 2nd day and they were still there on the 9th day before the cleaners cleaned the balcony area! We constantly had to ask for towels and one day they came in at 1.30 and asked for the dirty towels as we were getting showered to go out and when we asked for clean ones so we could get ready we were told there weren't any until 3.30 that day! The swimming pool (which is VERY small, was also very dirty and had a line of green scum just above the water line, during the whole 10 days we were there! There is also an inside pool which just looked very murky but we didn't use this as the steps leading down to the pool area were lethal and both myself and my partner slipped when going down to have a look! The entertainment was practically non existent with nothing at all most evenings and then the same two 'crooners' a couple of times a week who seemed to only cater for the elderly maltese locals who would come in for ballroom dancing. NO entertainment at all for the kids, not even a bit of a disco early evening! Although the food was reasonable, the toast in the mornings was pre cooked and like chewy cold cardboard. Also seemed to be constantly running out of cups and plates and having to wait 10-15 minutes for these to be replenished! There is no outside bar so you would have to dry off to go to the inside bar and get a drink. The upstairs evening bar was understaffed and quite often had a queue of 10 or more people waiting for drinks. The all inclusive was limited to local spirits, wine and soft drinks - no cocktails, kids drinks or ice creams and everything had to be rung up on the till and signed for (no wristbands) if you're not all inclusive, it was 2.40 euros for a pint of iced water from the cooler!!!! the room we were given was above the loading bay for the hotel and opposite the cleaners station with a tribute bar opposite so music until late and from 6am there was constant noise from the cleaners station and loading bay and the air conditioning wasn't very good. The bathroom was very dated and grubby. Overall, the hotel is very dated and certainly not worthy of 4 stars!

On the plus side, the majority of the staff were friendly and helpful, particularly in the dining room and the food was reasonable. Also because the pool area was very small and grubby most people chose to go out during the day and so getting a sunbed wasn't usually a problem! there was also a roof terrace (although no one told us about it) we only found it when we went to the roof to look at the view!

There is a very good classic car museum across the road which we were quite impressed with.

There is no free Wi-Fi and both the paid Wi-Fi and the internet café (one PC in a very small room) rarely seemed to be working!

Malta and Gozo were really lovely and the boat trip to the blue lagoon was well worth the money.

Dear Guests,

We thank you for taking the time to review our property.

Our business is classified as 4 star by the Malta Tourism Authority board which perform several inspections during the year to ensure that our property is up to 4 star standard. You may seem to have high standards thus the Canifor was not suitable for you.

In the meantime, we apologize if we have fallen short of expectations and haven't met your standards.

Regards,
Janelle Tonna
