My girlfriend and I went to the Canifor Hotel in July 2011. was expecting a better hotel as the photo's etc that are on the guides are quite good. Pool area is good and quite relaxing, the receptionist could do with a little more peoples skills but not to bad i suppose.
the room was quite poor, the smell of smoke is always there the air conditioner bangs away and the fan controls are hard to use.

the bar tenders are okay but try to stop one old geyser form singing karaoke and leaving his customers waiting...i particularly liked a young maltease bar tender who i have to say is one of the most beautiful sexy ladies i have ever seen(she should be a model) ...and this is a compliment as they deal with their customers quite well.

maybe they could paint the rooms and upgrade the TV but in the whole not bad but also not great. The area around the hotel is quite convenient and close to bus station and also the square and its a lovely walk to ST Pauls Bay as well, and the swimming is lovely with sowm great resturants on the water front.

but i am sure people will enjoy them selves.

also try to get the gym working and the internet cafe....all were closed due to being faulty and recetionist was not even bothered...i suppose it was who was on that day moody lady or helpful one!!!luck of the day i suppose.

Room Tip: The tips about the air conditioners are true as its hard to be comfortable in 40 degrees of heat if the AC ain't working right but don'r complain as it won't get fixed...and also some maltease people our not as friendly as u think.....

We have just returned from Malta this afternoon and felt compelled to write a review (4/4/12). We paid a fair amount for all inclusive and we also upgraded our room to a superior room with balcony. When we arrived the receptionist was distracted when she handed over our key and we had to find our room. The room was a good size with a small tv, wardrobe, sofa, safe and balcony. However, we had to pay for the safe key and leave a deposit. The room was dirty and the bathroom had mildew all around it. We had small wooden table and chairs in our room and plastic table and chairs for our balcony, which was nice but the view from the window was just a mound of earth. Upon further inspection we noticed that the throws covering the sheets had not been washed as there was someone else's plaster stuck to it. We complained straight away but it took 2 days for them to do something about it. The manager at the front desk was very rude when we complained and told us that it wasn't how they did things there?? Eventually they changed the duvet however,we noticed that there was blood on the sheets - not from us - and noted that they were there for the remainder of our stay. The towels were changed almost every day. The food at the hotel was terrible, the remainder of the dinner menu was then served for lunch the next day. My boyfriend had a terrible upset stomach when we ate at the hotel and so we decided to eat out as much as we were able to. The restuarant staff were very friendly and always did their best to do what they could for us. The entertainment was a man on an electric keyboard but admittedly it was hilarious and enjoyable. The hotel was situated about 5 minutes from the bus depot and we paid 12 euros for 7 days which was worth it. The buses went all around Malta and ran approximately every 20 - 30 minutes. Recommend going to Mdina and Valetta. Overall, alot of people say that you get what you pay for - but we didn't even get that.

Room Tip: the higher floors would be better as the entertainment went on til 11am and you could hear it from the second floor.

. We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks in Aug 2011. Check- in took ages, with no apparent reason for this as they were not busy… Eventually we sent to one room and waited for 10 mins for someone to come with a key, then to be sent to a different room, which was average enough. It had 2 double beds and a fold up bed, therefore hardly room to walk around the room.
The seats in the main pool area were so squashed together, so everyone on top of each other. The sun leaves the pool area around 4 every day so you were in the shade and could be quite cold so we just went to the Jacuzzi on the roof terrace every day but this gets very dirty and you would not go into it near the end of the day.
The food was average enough and that’s all I need to say about that. (Or can think to say!!)
The entertainment in the hotel was geared more towards older people and suppose ok if you like waltzing but not our cup of tea. (Not for a couple in their mid 30s)
I do understand you get what you pay for and this is certainly a cheap holiday but think the hotel could benefit greatly from a revamp in all areas!!! I would certainly NEVER go back … The only thing that could not be faulted was be the weather.

Kenneth L, Manager at Canifor Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 12 April 2012

We are very sorry to hear about the belated issues concerning guest’s stay in August last year, and we very much regret of any inconvenience however caused to our esteemed guest and would like to comment as follows:
It is incorrect to say that the room was small because of an extra bed since this is one of the larger rooms we have in the property which actually it can be used also to take up a family of four. The room occupied was a standard room and it contained all the usual facilities one expects to find in a similar guest room. Since then all rooms have undergone refurbishment and are now better and comfortably equipped.
The receptionist are all quite capable to handle guests and the remark made about them is uncalled for. One always takes some time to receive a service especially when there are other guests being attended to.
The Pool/Jacuzzi water is cleaned three times daily and although there are notices for one to take a shower before entering the Pool/Jacuzzi residents do not always abide by these instructions with the consequence that the water becomes smeared at the end of the day.
The pool is of an average size and is ample for the number of guests normally in-house. However sometimes it does get crowded when guests tend to stay indoors instead of going to the beach which is just a couple 100meters away.
If you would like to contact me about anything please don't hesitate to do so on my e-mail below.

Just back after 11 nights at Canifor. I had a great stay. The staff is very polite and helpful.Always a smile on their lips. You enter the breakfast area and the way they treat you make your day!Reception staff also very helpful, giving you advice if needed. Maid service at the room is satisfied and ladies kind and friendly.
The only negative I can say,is that I expected the gym-area to be a little bigger. Anyway,no problem,as Canifor is ideal located near by the bus-terminal. Instead of having exercise indoors I explored the beautiful island by bus and on feet!!
I travelled alone and got room 230 with a twin-bed,so I slept like a bird!
Going back to Malta next year again and another visit to Canifor! Well worth the money!!
I had bed and breakfast...

We have just returned last saturday the 17th from a week at the canifor , after reading the negative reports knocking the hotel we were a bit sceptical about going there . make your own mind up , we found the staff most helpful , very friendly , the food was quite good with good choice we could always find something to eat every day and meal time , we have done all inclusive for a few years now and this was one of the best , you are not paying 5 star prices , the hotel was clean , the bedrooms were good , public areas were clean and domestic staff were very helpful . we met some very nice people on this holiday and found the island very picturesque and pretty . Visit the elvis bar and the Tavern close by , buses very good bus station close by , avoid the time share !

Room Tip: overlooking the pool on 2nd floor
