Owner description: Ardent Craft Ales began as a co-op in a Richmond garage, a space where we sought to create innovative beers and introduce others to historic brewing methods and beer styles. As a production brewery, our mission remains the same: to produce and celebrate exceptional and ambitious beers with the ever-growing craft beer community.

Ardent had a variety of beers available, from specialty ones like Gose, Sweet Potato Sage saison and a German Altbeir as well as several IPAs. All were really good (says my beer loving boyfriend) and it was a fun place to hang out on a Sunday afternoon.

Our goal is to visit every craft brewery in Richmond, which we visit every few months. Scott's Addition is the place to be, apparently, and Ardent is one of the most established breweries in the area. The weather was perfect, and the beer garden was full of happy people, including us. Very roomy. Ardent offers a variety of choices, from the more trendy gose and saison to more traditional porter and kolsch. I would suggest a flight, so you can try a bit of several brews. My favorite was the honey ginger. The staff worked efficiently, both behind the counter and in cleaning tables. Yes, we will visit again, especially since the seasonal beers are intriguing.

We were in town visiting family, and were taken to the "food truck" in the yard for the BBQ. When we arrived, the line for BBQ was already over an hour long. Half our party stood in line and the other half got drinks, a hummus appetizer and a table (it was a rainy day) inside Ardent Ales. The patio would be lovely if the weather was nice.

Everything was very good. While I don't usually bring my children into a alcohol heavy restaurant, it was fine. Near the restroom there was a toy box. It looked available for patrons. We were departing before I saw it.

The rumor is that the BBQ is building a restaurant next door, that is a great idea.

Parking is free, but limited.

The children drank tiny glass Cokes, or fizzy water with a splash of fresh strawberries.

I had to have a procedure done at the VA hospital. Only the second time in Richmond so decided to check out the breweries.

Ardent had some good beers. We left with a four pack and a bottle of the anniversary triple.

The area is booming and lots of good vibes.

We went to seven different places in one day. This one was the best. So, if you have to pick only one place to try, pick this one.

We liked every single beer we tried here. The atmosphere is great, sort of new industrial cinderblock meets old barn. Full of windows, great outdoor patio. The bartenders and other staff were very friendly and hospitable, going out of their way to make our visit pleasant.
