“Very Romantic Getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2012

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mansion on February 3rd-5th...our early Valentine's Day celebration. The room was fabulous, the service was impeccible and the food was simply delicious. Our gracious hosts were top notch. Martin and Paula recommended sights for us to see (really enjoyed the winery tour), places for us to go (loved Carytown by the way) and food for us to experience (the avocado key lime pie was amazing, just like you said :)). The Mansion had all of the comforts of home and some! If you are looking for a quant, cozy, romantic getaway with excellent customer service and beautiful landscape and history, this is definately the place for you. By the way, making out is strongly encouraged in the Pillow Room, right Paula?? ;) Thanks again, just what we needed....we shall return.

Room Tip: The Jefferson Suite is very spacious...has 2 rooms in it. The double shower is a must! The room has...

My boyfriend and I bought the LivingSocial deal for a weekend vacation and early celebration of Valentine's Day. The Mankin Mansion is an absolutely beautiful property. We stayed in the Farmer's Cottage and it was so cozy. The beds were amazing--we slept like babies. The only thing that got us up in the morning were the delicious breakfasts--eggs benedict with homemade biscuits and stuffed banana french toast. Martin recommended a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant Pescado's where we got a free dessert and champagne. If you stay at the mansion, you MUST go to this restaurant. The fish is out of this world and the avocado key lime pie is the best dessert I've ever had--honestly. Martin and Paula clearly love what they're doing and it shows. They give many complementary snacks and were so friendly. I highly recommend spending a weekend at this beautiful mansion whether it's for a weekend getaway or celebrating a special occasion.

Historic Mankin Mansion is located about 15 minutes outside of Richmond. The Mansion is Beautiful, the grounds are great and the location is very nice. There are local shopping venues located close but the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. The Ramirez's are very pleasent and helpful on touring, dining out, or just relaxing. We were a little concerend about the proximity to the airport but i can' recall hearing a plane once. All of the rooms are very tastefully decorated and were well planned for comfort as well. The breakfast were very good. We have no complaints with any aspect of our trip and were very impressed with what they have been able to do with this turn of the past century building.

Room Tip: for large groups one of the cottages would be good. For indoor comfort the washington or Jefferson s...

If you are looking for a very quiet, very friendly, and comfortable bed and breakfast, this place is the BOMB. I went last week, in January of 2012, and it was the off season I suppose. But it was everything they said they would do. I got a living social deal and wasn't really expecting much more than a bed and bathroom, but good Lord! You walk in and the owner greets you, you get a WONDERFUL bottle of wine, the MOST comfortable bed (they have the memory foam toppers, so they are BALLIN!), and the breakfast. Let me tell you about the breakfast. They will just bring it right in, won't wake you up, and it is all obviously home made. Mimosas, french toast, fresh fruit, fresh coffee, orange juice, etc. So yummy. And they have a little game room that has a really good selection of movies. But get the movies before they close at 9 pm. But actually, it doesn't really matter because we got our movies after nine. And you can pop your own popcorn! And they have soda, water, and some treats in the game room for you to get at any time.

There were iHome speakers in every bedroom and one in the sitting room with the TV. The owners are just awesome, Martin and Paula. YOu really can't go wrong. They even gave us a bottle of wine on the house. It was awesome! Definitely recommend this place!

We found Historic Mankin Mansion as part of a LivingSocial deal. We bought the two night deal, not really knowing what to expect. When we arrived, we were a little late, but Martin had called us ahead of time telling us where we could find our arrival packet - it was a very considerate step. The suite we had was the Washington Suite and it was beautiful. They had put snacks in the room for us, and everything was spotless. We went to Pescados, per a recommendation from the Mansion. We were a little confused at first, as it didn't look like much from the outside, but they were spot on about the food. The following day, we had an amazing breakfast of eggs benedict topped with blue cheese. The proprietors referred us to a few wineries to try, including directions. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the wine! Afterwards we checked out the game room and grabbed a movie (standard chick flick fare, but they also had Indiana Jones). Trusting their judgment, we went to a sushi bar for dinner and were again thrilled with the food - Martin and Paula really know their stuff! The following morning, we were the only ones at breakfast (apparently everyone else slept in) and were yet again amazed with a great breakfast. They gave us some snacks for the road and we chatted. All in all, our time there was absolutely lovely and I felt completely pampered by the level of care and attention we were paid. The boyfriend loved it, and I would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Bring socks - the rooms are beautiful, but the mansion is a little older and thus the floors can be...
