Castelsardo Resort Village
Ranked #11 of 16 Hotels in Castelsardo
Reviewed 15 July 2016 via mobile

We booked this resort, for 2 weeks and full board. Having breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The overall rating for this resort is mixed, and below awarage. The primary positivity is the seaview.
The morning buffet is a standard and not too impressive hotel breakfast, with limited selections in my opinion. The lunch and dinner buffet is poor, it does not live up to the standards that we expect from the website photos. Some of the italian foods are prepared from frozen ingredients, and the pizza is always cold. Pasta undercooked and meat from breakfast and/or lunch served at dinner with pesto to vide the fact it is dry. :(
All in all, not impressed with the food.

The pool is salt wather, with umbrella and deckchairs for free. (No diving centre at resort)
Umbrella and deckchairs at the beach is charged aprox. 10€.
Going to the beach, is a 5-10 min walk, down steap stairs, and hills. The beach is very bad, as this is NOT a sandy beach. There is small and large rocks all over, and it hurts my feet when walking into the wather by stepping on stones. :(
Rooms are aprox. 20sqm holding 4 persons, which is very small.
As mentioned the seaview is awesome. :)

Great small city. Fantastic place. There is small beach but if you have a car you may visit nearby. Unforgettable view from the Castle on the hill. Lots of restaurants with delicious Mediterranean cousin.

We stayed here for a week, and are buzzing to be back next year. The structure was spotless, the staff very friendly. The accomodation was very comfortable. Great reception all round. The pool is very ample, with a view over the sea and towards the town of Castelsardo. Amazing sunset.
There was a good and varied selection of starters and side dishes. Top marks for the first courses, meat seconds, and desserts. The sea is reached by way of a pretty steep descent on foot, but there is transport up and down during the day. Beautiful water - bring sea shoes and a snorkle to get the full value of it.
What might be useful for some is that the resort is set on a hillside, there are a lot of stairs, so for people with reduced mobilty this is not the best place. Also a pair of English guests complained about the four star standard - basically italian four stars do not correspond to the English standard. In Italy, the star standard is regulated by law. This is a seaside resort, definitely above the average, and good value for money.

Room Tip: It appears the better accomodation is in the part of the structure that has been renovated.

We booked an unrefurbished low cost room and that's what we got! It was very basic and the sounds from adjoining rooms could be heard clearly. However, it was clean and comfortable and had a lovely sea view. The air conditioning was good and the shower worked well. It had a small fridge which was really useful. No kettle but we took a travel one with us. The breakfast was ok, with a selection of hot and cold food although the choices each day were a bit hit and miss. With a little effort, this hotel could be really good. It needed updating and a little extra attention to detail. Having said that, it would probably have been out of our price range then. The staff were really friendly and helpful and sorted out any problems we had.
There are limited buses into Castelsardo. We often walked but the roads have no pavement so are not very safe. It's best to hire a car to get about, which we did for a couple of days. Car hire was cheap - a Fiat Panda for 50 euros a day. The area of Castelsardo immediately around the castle is beautiful. The rest of Castelsardo is a bit shabby.
You need swim shoes for the beach at the hotel as it is stoney. We loved the peaceful little bay and enjoyed snokelling there. This part of Sardinia is very unspoilt with beautiful scenery, beaches and forests.

I think there will be a big difference whether you stay here off season, as we did, or in high season. We had a beautiful, obviously very recently renovated room, with an excellent bathroom and beautiful terrace overlooking the sea.
In high season there is animation and all this kind of stuff we hate, but right now in september it was very peaceful and quiet.
The swimming pool with salty water is very big and nice.
The beach is not great, it is a bit stony, hard to get in and out of the water without special shoes.
Castelsardo is one of the most beautiful cities in Sardinia.
Other people complain about a lot of stairs in the resort but what do you expect when you choose a location on the rocks by the sea! We liked it.
The breakfast was ok.
