“Nice hotel - but not family friendly”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

Overall, its a nice hotel, but not family friendly. The breakfast closes at 9am ! I think its ok for business customers, but not for family. While we were there, I saw so many families coming at 9/9:30 and to their surprise, no breakfast ! And the kitchen was closed !

Luckily I asked the time when we checked in and had to drag my sleepy kids down at 8:30am.

Room Tip: Be there for bfast by 8:30

This was our third time staying here. I loved this place the first two times we stayed here. This time we arrived 7 hours late due to a delayed plane. IT was late and they put us in room 201. There is not a bathtub in this room :O( but it was late, we were tired, so we just unpacked and went to bed. The next morning the sink's faucet handle in the shower area came off in our hands. We told them at breakfast, and I did not go back into that area of the bathrooms. We left to go on to Talkeetna, and as we unpacked that night I noticed my make-up case was missing. We called Spring HIll the next morning and asked if they had found it, and to hold it until we came back on Friday. The lady on the phone kept saying we had a bad connection and finally hung up. The first thing we asked when we arrived on Friday was where the make=up case was. The desk clerk (who was the one I spoke with on the phone) went to the back and got the case (in a plastic bag). I opened it and noticed my pill box was missing along with one of those little silk jewelry pouches. I said something immediately. She said was I sure, I said I would check my carry on again, but I was pretty sure. Went to the room and checked all our luggage-nothing! Went back down and said it was not there. Asked if they had drug addicts on the staff as I had Vicodin and Tramadol and some over the counter sleeping pills in the pill case that was missing. I got blank stares. I was told they would look again-I asked again on Saturday and they called the housekeeper. She would not look at me and said they found nothing. Those items WERE in the make-up case when it was in the room, so who has them now???? This concerns me. Luckily there was no expensive jewelry in the pouch.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the mountains.

I had never stayed at a SpringHill Suites Hotel. I loved the modern yet welcoming feel of the lobby. My room was very well designed and had a beautiful view of the lake. The staff could not have been friendlier, front desk, housekeeping, and shuttle bus drivers.
A daily run around the lake was invigorating. I came away more rested than from any working assignment I have ever had.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view

I've been here three times now and have yet to get a good nights sleep because of all the kids staying here for sports events. A lot of running up and down the halls, slamming doors and yelling as well as hanging out in the lobby. The midnight birthday celebration outsite under my window this last trip made me say bad words. They have to stay somewhere though and the location is great for them. Just be aware of the sports events if you are a light sleeper. Pool may be unusable if overrun with kids as there isn't any monitoring of behavior or enforcement of having an adult accompany them.
The free Breakfast is great as it's always hard to go to a restaurant before starting a business day. Nothing special but it's well stocked, staffed and clean even with the amount of people that pass through. Plenty of seating as well which has been an issue at other hotels.
Out back is a great fireplace and access to a trail around the lake. Loved watching all the cross country skiers and dogs take advantage of this. I've never seen so many happy dogs ;)
Location is super for me as it's in the middle of two business locations I frequent. Convenient to anywhere and loads of restaurants all within 15 minutes drive.
The rooms have a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. They have a nice layout except the two separate batch units are a bit weird - but maybe good if you're sharing the room. Shower in one room, toilet in the other...and yep - put a towel on the floor when you shower to soak up the puddle.
Overall, nice clean hotel with friendly and efficient staff. I hope summer time is nice and quiet? I'll keep trying for a bit as it's a great location for me and scenic. ~Happy travels!

Room Tip: Rooms on the third floor at the far end may be quieter - but quite a hike.

I stayed here for 1 week in March 2012. I was very impressed with the quality of the property and of the staff. The location is also superb as it sits on a lake with a walking trail.

I stayed here with two kids and we took full advantage of the pool. A small complaint might be that a couple of times in the pool the chlorine was a bit much. The water could have been slightly warmer as well.

Breakfast was ample and standard hotel fare.

One of the best things about the hotel is that it is Native Alaska owned.
