“Terrific stay with outstanding hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2012

We had a wonderful stay with Vivian and Rodolphe at the B&B a la Bataille de La Fiere. They welcomed us upon our arrival, helped us make dinner reservations and provided recommendations about what to see and do on our unplanned day. We enjoyed our conversations with them at breakfast, learning more about the history of Sainte-Mere-Eglise and its surroundings. Rodolphe went out of his way to make sure we could get internet in our room and they helped to search the room for a missing ring, which had been caught in my backpack. We hope to return to spend more time in Normandy and Brittany and will be sure to book here again!

Our stay at the B&B was wonderful, one that, after our two nights there, we hated to leave! Vivian and Rodolphe are such gracious hosts who welcomed us into their home, not as proprietors, but as if they had known us forever. Breakfast, room, amenities, assistance, were all second to none. As if things couldn't get any better, the stories shared by the Roger's were a special bonus! The day after our departure, I was already sharing their business card with other tourists. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The 505th Red room was great!

J & T, Thank you for being wonderful guests. It is always a compliment to us to have guests who were referred by recent and previous guests. Talk about exponential growth!!! This is what we prefer to any other means of advertising. Our guests do the talking. These people were here for a little relaxation as well as to explore the history of Normandy. They were full of appreciation for us and for all around them. They not only received, they gave back. The world would be in better harmony if we all conduted ourselves like these folks. J & T, you are a pleasant reminder of why we do what we do here. Thans so very much!!! V&R

Thank you for taking the time to write this nice review. We are glad that you appreciate all the efforts we made to make your stay enjoyable. It is always a bit of a challenge for us when guests arrive by taxi, particularly when they arrive here after 8 pm. They did inform us of this late arrival. I suggested that they get something in Paris to eat on the train as they would be arriving too late to go out to a restaurant....or it could be difficult to get a taxi at that hour. In any case, they had not eaten and we could not find an available taxi. So I prepared something light for them, which is not my usual practice, particularly after 8 pm. As they booked very late with us and there were no choices of rooms, this mother and son agreed to stay in our large 82nd Airborne Family Suite the first night at a very reduced rate. Then we moved them to a twin bed room for the next two nights. We made sure they had the requested extra pillows, could connect their computers with our WiFi, organized a private tour at the last minute as they had not managed this in advance, organized taxi for return to train when leaving, etc. They were very nice guests. We always try to adapt to the needs of our guests.

A note to all potential guests.....if you use telephones or Skype in your rooms late at night, please remember there are other guests in the rooms next to yours who may wish to sleep. Please inform your significant others that we are not a hotel and we close at 8 pm. Of course we will take calls in case of emergency and will gladly pass the phone on. However, please do not call us after 8 pm otherwise. Our hours are stated on our website. And yes, also clearly stated is our location in the countryside 3 km from Ste. Mère-Eglise. Best to have a car. There are very few taxi options in our area. Thank you all for your kind considerations. Vivian & Rodolphe

I was honored to stay at this B&B, recently. Vivian and Rudolphe Roger are great people, and treat their establishment with the respect it deserves, being hallowed ground where men fought and died. I stayed two nights in the "Purple" room, which was spotless and comfortable... the perfect mix of modern amenities and historical preservation.

The B&B's location made it easy to tour the American sector beaches, as well as the towns of Saint Mere Elgise, Carentan, and Caen. I also ventured south to Mont St. Michel, and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to see that marvel and still make it back to a warm bed. Across the street is a beautiful monument to the 60 killed and over 500 wounded on this site, securing the 500 yard causeway.

Please note that this is a very quiet facility, which again is fitting, considering its history. If you're the sort that likes to talk on the phone at full volume at all hours, etc. then this place is probably not for you. However, if you're like me and tread lightly, with respect, and consider it a privilege to stay in such a place, then you will enjoy this immensely, as I did.

Thank you so much for all your kind words and sentiments. You must have been raised by parents of grand social graces. You seem to understand what this place is all about and what we are trying to do here....not just for the guests, but for the honor and dignity of this history and those who fought for freedom here. You were the ideal guest and we would love to have you stay here anytime. You were even so kind as to provide shuttle service to and back from the restaurant for our other guests who had no car. And you did not even eat there!!! What a kind soul you have.

I do apologize for late night Skypers in the room next to you. That does not make for a good quality of sleep, I do understand. I can only ask here for everyone to please be considerate of others. Thanks for all, V&R

My wife and I have a seasonal restaurant on Cape Cod. Every year in early February we travel to the UK to recruit some staff for the summer season. Because of my awesome experience this past November in Normandy my wife and kitchen manager (who was traveling with us) asked if we could make a quick trip to Normandy and LaFiere. As mentioned in a previous review, I stayed at LaFiere in November while traveling with my father and two brothers. My second experience was as good if not better than my first. Vivian and Rudolphe are amazing hosts and have an absolute passion for their B&B. Even if you do not have an interest in history and D-day...if you are traveling in France and are anywhere near St Mere Eglise you need to book a room and check out LaFiere. I promise that you will be glad that you did!

We are yearning for your "Moby Dick" seafood!!! And for your return here!!! These guests have stayed here twice already and say they will be coming back. AND they have submittted two fantastic reviews. What more could B&B hosts want in this world!!! Guests that have become friends right away. They really seem to appreciate the reverence of the history here and the care that we try to provide for our guests. We just cannot express in enough words our gratitude to you. Take care and hope to see you when you take another break. V&R
