“Terrific Log Lodge for a Group”
Reviewed 3 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed at this house (lodge?) with our family of 10 over 7 days. We had 2 children and a baby in our group. We ate all our dinners at the house, while spending our days exploring Seward and the area. The house was very conveniently located for short-drive visits to town (playground), grocery shopping at Safeway, going on a charter fishing trip, guided glacier cruise tour, and hikes to Exit Glacier, and Tonsina Point.

The clean, modern kitchen proved up to the task of feeding our large group regularly. A typical day in the kitchen would see breakfast being made, day's sandwiches/lunches being prepared, breakfast being cleaned up after, afternoon snacks being prepared, dinner being prepped and then cooked, and dinner being cleaned up. 3 to 4 adults could comfortably work simultaneously in the kitchen.

Some notes for those who may find themselves at the helm of meal prep for your group (as of late August 2015):

• The house has a good collection of condiments, some rudimentary (perhaps old?) spices, a few vinegars, cooking oil -- all labeled with dates (presumably when they were opened) with masking tape (an excellent system and one which I wish more rentals would implement). Soy sauce was refrigerated too, which I appreciate as people often seem to assume it won't turn if left out. If you want bitters for your cocktails, bring it, because there seems to be none in Seward's liquor stores.

• On the advice of others, upon arriving at ANC (airport) we made a beeline for the local markets reported to have selections of organic goods. Natural Pantry and New Sagaya. We were glad to have taken the effort to do the majority of our week's grocery purchases before heading to Seward. The selections and overall quality of the selections were better in Anchorage. Be warned, groceries in AK are likely to be pricier than at home (ie, lower 48).

• The kitchen has one set of the basic tools most cooks will need. But being that it's large enough for multiple hands to pitch in, one would be advised to bring a few extra tools so more than one person can help prep.

On the second day, the children met Logan and Jax, the two very very friendly "dog-sisters" who live at the owners' cabin. We also bought firewood in town (turned out to be a dollar cheaper at Safeway than in town) and had a nice smores-making fire one evening, while the older children whittled.

The space under the stairs is a fun place to hide, make a fort, and play games

We stayed for a whole week and enjoyed every minute of it. What a marvelous log cabin with full kitchen, hot tub and plenty of room! We also enjoyed the glacier kayak and hiking to see salmon run Wendy recommended. Will definitely come back.

“Awesome Log Cabin”
Reviewed 26 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We had a great stay in Seward. The house was beautiful - plenty of room, big kitchen, grill, hot tub, etc. Everything was in its place (the rules help to keep it nice). We'd definitely stay here again.

This home is very well equipped and comfortable. We had a great, relaxing stay. There were eight in our family (teenagers to grandparents) and everyone had a fabulous time.

“Relaxing, fun, home like stay in Alaska”
Reviewed 15 August 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We traveled to Alaska as an extended family group - ranging in ages from 3 to 63. Bear Paw Lodge was a great place for us to spread out and enjoy card games upstairs or have some quiet time downstairs. The kitchen was large and equipped so we could enjoy family meals. Comfortable bedrooms for us all. We enjoyed talking with Wendy who gave us tons of ideas about how to spend our days in Alaska as well as telling us about the history of the house and what it is like to live day to day in Alaska.
