We check into a beautiful 2 bedroom suite that had a very musty odour. We were told the climate was humid and some rooms smelled that way. Went shopping for febreeze, while spraying the hallway, stepped on wet carpet below vent and then went on to discover mold in kitchen vent. At bedtime, we discovered ants (lots of them) in our bed. Called front desk, security came and said we had to move out of 421. Upon a visual inspection of the next room, 310, we also discovered many ants. Off to 312. Ants in kitchen, which we dealt with by buying raid. This was first room that did not smell musty. Front desk apologized and we were told Carol would be contacting us. The only contact was "hope to see you at the pool later" and that was as good as it got. We were not able to attend due to other committments. No further attempt to contact us in regard to our stay, ant or mould problem. View was great and Kona hospitality was awsome. I don't beleive that all the hotels have ants and mould just because! More detail to cleanliness could be applied. Corners and hard to reach places were far from clean. Most hotels would supply a complimentary something to show some kind of remorse for their short comings.

We were at this resort November 2011. The resort was GREAT. The rooms were clean, quiet and well stocked. The employees were all very professional and called to check to see if we needed anything on a daily basis. The staff was very informative and helpful in everything that we inquired about. You can view the ocean from the back of the property. However, there is no beach access there, but a beautiful view. Will stay with them again next time we go to islands.

We recently traded into this property through RCI. On their advice I called a few weeks before check in to request an oceanview oceanfront room as they are limited on this property. On the phone and upon check in, we were advised that they would do their best but those rooms are reserved from Wyndham Premier owners. Upon check in we were told nothing was available and given room #111. Upon entering we were thrilled to find not only were we steps from the north pool (although our patio still was private) we also had a view of the ocean! It was a perfect location. The unit is two bedroom with two full baths and extremely spacious.

There are several activites available put on by the staff - we only attended the Aloha Party and highly recommend it.

Be sure to try out Lava Java Bistro! View of the water/sunsets, they offer a Sunset special for 50% entrees, no corkage fee for bringing your own wine, and great breakfasts too!

We spent 8 nights at the Royal Sea Cliff. The resort sits on a beautiful but inaccessible ocean front. You can look down into the surf where you can see yellow tang playing among the rocks. Snorkeling would be great but there are many safer and more accessible spots nearby. The rooms were spacious, quiet and comfortable. We had one night in a spacious two bedroom with a spectacular view looking west over the ocean. The staff was very helpful and the special events were informative. You will need a car but there are good local restaurants and shopping a short drive away. A great place to enjoy Hawaii. Make time to visit the royal palace and Pu'uhonau o Honaunau National Park.

Room Tip: RCI rooms do not have an ocean view but the courtyard is lovely. There is a busy road in the front...

Overall this resort was far better than I expected given the reviews I had read before our trip. The unit was spacious, clean, well stocked and offered a wonderful ocean view even though we were told there would not be one. The only complaint we had was the smell in the unit. Unit #621. I went down to the front desk and asked what could be done. They sent a maintenance man to the unit. He said the unit had a cooling system using cold water, in other words it was not an a/c unit that would remove the humidity. My brother actually cleaned black "mold" like stuff off the kitchen air vent. The maintenance man did find us an air purifier after I asked for one. However, it did nothing for the humidity in the unit. He also said this was to be expected in a tropical setting. (I have traveled the world, stayed in tropical settings and have never had to deal with this before) Also, he told me he might be able to find a dehumidifier but thought that the "one" they had was already in use in another unit. (He did not bring us one) My comment to the management is: dehumidifiers are not that costly and that for the comfort and SAFETY of your guests it would be a worthwhile investment.

Would I recommend you stay here? Absolutely! I don't think every room has a problem with an odor, we just happened to get one of them. The staff was helpful and quick to respond. And all in my family agreed we would stay again if ever on the island.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view.
