Traveled with 3 other couples, and rented 4 condos total. The other 3 condo's:3316, 2210 &4210, were all furnished very nicely with great views. Ours, of course was horrible....do not stay in 3318. The condo has not been updated since the early 90's, mattress - terrible, no ice maker, no coffee bean grinder, no beach towels, no extra pillow cases, furniture - old & funky, old bathroom, shower -- terrible, walls thin, no ironing board, I could go on and on.....Then there was the management company, called Sunquest, they offered no assistance, had to drive 15 mins out of our way to pick up and return keys....again disappointed. As for the complex itself, no elavators, no beach access, SILCENCE at 10pm, no one even the guests staying there were happy. Guess being in our 50's, we were too young to stay there--we should have been much older to feel comfortable. However the grounds are well maintained, great location to town, no bugs in our room, great view from our room, and the Green Flash was our saving grace every morning for coffee. And for those reasons, I upgraded my rating to a 2-star. I enjoyed my vacation to Kona and will return to the Big Island, but I will not stay in this complex, there are others on the island that would offer a sense of "aloha".

I have stayed at Sea Village through Vacation Internationale 9 times and have never had a problem but I did not stay just after the Tsunami, which flooded a lot of Alii Drive since it is feet from the water. Grab every coupon, map and brochure at the airports, car rental office and anywhere you see them especially the magazine that shows what is happening that week on the Big Island - there are magazines for the other islands so look for BIG Island.

Number one - If you are used to a 4-5 star resorts why would you not stay at one up the Gold Coast? One negative review said they were used to 4-5 star resorts - didn't the price give you a clue? Sea Village is a nice 3 star type apartment complex with most of the units owner occupied. VI has around 30 and there are another 10 or so that I know of that are rentals by the owner.

Number two - if you must have A/C then many of the locations in Hawaii you will not like. In Hawaii you turn on the ceiling fans, open the windows, slide patio doors, latch the screen door and you might even open the front door for the ocean breeze since Sea Village is feet from the water. No beach, just black lava rocks between your lanai and the ocean depending on the building. I am from VEGAS so 110 degrees in the summer means that I find the 80-90 degrees of Kona just fine.

Number three- chill out people you are in Hawaii and Kona is a laid back small town. I do agree if you are used to absolute silence when you sleep the sound of the ocean and other people stirring early in the morning will probably mean you are getting an early start to your day. By the way, the Murphy bed [bed in a stand up closet bolted to the wall] in most units is in the living room. I have found that it can be very romantic to look out the glass door at the ocean in the moonlight. Yeah an old romantic, after all I am 67.

Number four - many Hawaiians have an accent because of how they pronounce words and Hawaiian words or phrases that may be inserted. If you have traveled abroad you will have no problems. Relax ask questions keep your eyes and ears open and soon you will be saying mahalo and aloha [thanks and see you/goodby]. You came to Hawaii to see the sights and get away from your "normal" life. Go to Hilo Hattie's and get your Aloha shirt - do not get a bright polyester as you will roast wearing it as I did my first trip. You get cotton and you buy one size bigger so the air circulates to help with the humidity.
SLOW DOWN, RELAX and ENJOY the ALOHA SPIRIT. People will actually wave you onto the road and let you cross the street - unless they are tourists. ; )

You can see things on the Big Island you have only seen on TV. Better the first time to let someone else do the driving unless you are very adventurous, IMHO. Try the Circle tour not sure what companies are doing them now. If you remember, ask how many passengers the bus holds? Much more fun with a 20 passenger bus then a full sized with 40+. See the Volcano, go to the Sea Horse farm, visit a coffee farm and see the sea life. If you snorkel, you will love the Kona side of the island. You can also swim with dolphins or manta rays if you dive.

I hope you leave loving the Big Island as much as my wife and I do. Looking forward to going back to Sea Village near the end of the year. Watch out for the Ironman event in early October as the run is right outside on Alii drive. You can ONLY get out by walking once the run starts.

Have stayed here in the past (2 times over 10 years), never seen any improvements, will not be back again. Unfortunately, the mix of resort rentals w/ staff who live on site (probably for free) is not a good mix for timeshare owners who come expecting a relaxing Hawaiian vacation. Unreasonable quiet hours are set from 10PM to 8AM (wow!) and the staff thinks "quiet" means "silence". Do not recommend staying here. There are large cockroaches in our unit every night - in cupboards & on floor (you have to walk to the bathroom with a flashlight or turn on lights to avoid stepping on them) - broken screens are more than likely the root of the problem here. Noisy property workers look tired and mad - nobody smiles. One neighbor who said he was the "General Manager" (3000 Bldg) actually threatened to tell my kids to stop being so loud if they would not listen to me. What a joke! Sea Village is far from the Spitit of Aloha. If the staff is trying to drive away business, they are off to a fine start. Sea Village should be empty within a couple years. Of course, the staff will not have jobs anymore, but at least they will have thier "quiet" ... errr "silence."

Room Tip: Avoid units in the 3000 bldg.

We're actually still staying at this resort right now. It's nice, clean, people are friendly, but I would never stay here again. You can't get any sleep! The living rooms all face the pool and ocean, which is great, but the bedrooms face the parking lot. There's a very loud complex next door, and the workers here are using leaf blowers, chain saws, drills, you name it! People were outside talking at 6am today, and we laid down to try for a nap just now at 230pm and were awoken 15 minutes later by yelling and laughing from the employees and drills. I don't know what the heck they are all working on all the time, it's not under construction or anything, but I would never stay here again. We've stayed at much more relaxing places here before.

We stayed for a week in 3-210 and could not have been more satisfied with the unit and, in fact, with the entire complex. The unit was large and open and quite up to date, well furnished and equipped, except there were no "beach accessories" - no beach chairs, towels, boogie boards or snorkel gear. There was no A/C, but we were very comfortable with the lovely ocean breezes and very quiet and efficient fans. The unit directly overlooks the pool and the ocean is immediately beyond that - hard to be much closer to the waves. The pool is large and well maintained, and there is a great BBQ and picnic area immediately adjacent to the pool. The location is convenient to beaches and bays to the south, and has very easy access to shopping, touring and the airport.. We will try to book this specific unit for future trips to Kona, or at least, a similar unit in the same complex.
