“Quiet, convenient and a great view!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

We had a lovely view of the ocean and the rocks from the lanai. Lovely sunset and surfer viewing. There was a full kitchen and washer and dryer, free parking and wi-fi although there was a $10 amenities fee which included a small inventory of dvds. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The Expedia presentation every morning was helpful. There was a public access salt water pool beside the resort which was very refreshing to swim in. There were lots of chairs in the sandy area with a lovely view of the ocean. The units were clean and felt very safe. We couldn't hear the traffic on Allii Drive at all. It was convenient to town and the Keauhou Shopping Centre. Also there was a market and convenience store within walking distance. Snorkelling was a short drive away. Very relaxing spot.

Our family of 4 stayed here during Spring Break 2012. We had an Oceanfront 2 bedroom condo. If you book an Ocean"view" unit make sure it's as close to the ocean as possible. The layout of the units is excellent. Sitting on the lounges on the hotel's own sandy beach area (one of the few hotels on the ocean with sand, it's mostly lava rock) watching the sun set into the ocean each night was wonderful. We were told that whales and turtles are sometimes seen here but not our luck this time. If you're not looking for a lot of pampering but simply want a comfortable base from which to explore the island (with full a kitchen and w/d in your room), this is the place. Having said that, the staff are extremely helpful and courteous. We have stayed in Aston hotels in Maui, Kauai and Oahu and will definately be a guest of theirs again.

If you're looking for a unique experience visit Big Island Harley Davidson and tour the island on a hog! Ask for Mike to set you up.

Room Tip: For the best views try the units in the #1-10 series on the second or third floors.

Our spacious units with two full baths, master bedroom and a full kitchen provides options of staying at home or going out. Two baths, washer dryer helps families going out for the day and returning from a fun day. Sunsets with oceanside barbecues is what Hawaii is all about.

I hope you will return very soon and experience the Hawaii vacation we provide once again.

We stayed for a week here, having booked our trip through Costco Travel. Our family of four had a two bedroom, two bathroom oceanfront condo on the 4th floor. The condo's kitchen seemed brand new but the rest of it was not - but it wasn't too tired or dated by any stretch. The staff at Aston Kona, from the front desk to the landscaping crew to the housekeepers, are excellent - really friendly, helpful, genuinely concerned about making your stay a nice one. Even though I would pull up the linens on the bed every morning, housekeeping always came in and cleaned and made the bed properly. The pool is very nicely maintained and a welcome respite after long days sightseeing or being on the beach. Some guidebooks will say that staying on Alli Drive (where this condo is located) can be noisy, but this part of the road is quiet. We never heard a car from the oceanfront side. Definitely go to the orientation offered by Expedia every morning. There is no hard (or soft) sell on anything but instead, good information on places to go and things to do.

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor and had lovely views...although there were palm trees obscuring a full-on o...

The place was wonderful! Staff excellent to deal with, maid service everyday..pool area really nice and lots of chairs to choose from. Nice having washer/dryer and full kitchen..we didn't have any problems in our room with WI-fi, maybe a little slow, but fine..the views were amazing! Two couples stayed in room 122. Only problem is we want to go back.. ;) The Big Island is Paradise!

We stayed at the Aston Kona By The Sea in February of 2012. We had some reservations based upon a few of the earlier reviews. We were not at all disappointed with our stay -- right on the ocean though without a swimming beach. We watched surfers and body boarders right off our balcony. Would definately stay there again. A short drive to restaurants and shopping, but not a major inconvenience.

Room Tip: We stayed in unit 403.
