I often stay at the Harmony: alone, with my husband, and when traveling with friends.

The owner, Ash, is super nice, reasonable and helpful. She takes good care of the property, and has taken care to impart a peaceful, relaxing, and lovely property. It has a great, low key, ambiance.

The rooms are spacious, with open, wooden beamed ceilings, and nice local artwork. You can tell the works were selected with care. The beds are comfy, but not too soft. The restrooms are accented with glass tile details, but are a bit smallish (shower stalls/no tubs - also on the cozy side).

Each room has an outdoor table, and chairs, to sit outside, and check out the view or check in on your laptops. (But why go to the desert to look at flat screens?)

The property is strung with tasteful little lights, that twinkle at night, to add to the brightness of the lighted pool and night sky.

I love the rooms with the kitchens - great, if you want to stay in and unwind. Fully functional - great for sitting at the table, drinking coffee, looking out the window, reading, and planning my day. (If they're taken, the common room sure comes in handy.)

I highly recommend sitting by the pool at sunset, watching the sun set, then settling in for a gorgeous view of the desert from the hot tub. It's very peaceful - almost magical. The view is unobstructed desert, for quite a way out - and you can see all the stars looking up.

The Harmony is located on Highway 62, so the closer to the highway, the more traffic sounds you hear. So, the Jack Kerouac cabin is not noise free - it is closest to the highway. My friend stayed here, and noted the sound, but wasn't bothered. If you are sensitive to the sound, ask for the rooms farthest from the road. : )

Please take time to visit this gem - close to Joshua Tree proper, but inexpensive, well cared for, and truly relaxing. It's close enough to most places to visit in the area. But it's delightful, if you have the time to unwind by the pool, and look up to see the night sky.

Just stayed one night! The motel is only a few miles from the North (main) entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. The room was cozy and quiet. The motel was very charming and the grounds were also well-maintained. We didn't have time to use the pool, but it looked like a nice place to relax. Even though our stay was short, it beat staying at a chain hotel, and made our time in the desert very enjoyable.

The only drawback had nothing to do with the motel, but the town of Twentynine Palms seemed quite economically depressed. I'm not sure why this is given the prime location to Joshua Tree NP.

When my husband and I were booking our first trip to the desert we wanted to avoid the chain "anywhere USA" rooms. We were seeking a "local experience". We found it at the Harmony. We stayed 4 nights 4/17/12-4/21/12. We were given room #6. It had a cute "eat in" kitchen that was large enough for two to work comfortably, a spacious bed room with interesting art work, and a small but lovely tiled bathroom. My personal favorite was the view from our room. All of the rooms have charming little cafe tables out side. Most of these over look the the interesting garden and pool area. Room 6, being on the far end offers a wonderful vista of the desert and distant mountains. Sitting on our little veranda with our coffee watching breathtaking sunrises is an experience I will carry in my mind for life. My son joined us on our last night staying in room #3 which was equally charming. We all enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The pool enclosure was great, with with a rustic but cozy decor and offered options for sitting in the sun or shade. Ash is a terrific hostess and I cannot say enough nice things about Renee, our housekeeper. She was cheerful, helpful and friendly. Everything, room and grounds were very clean. If I am lucky enough to get back to that beautiful part of our country, I would absolutely stay at The Harmony.

If I could give six stars for service, I would. Here's why I say that.
We stayed three nights - 4/18 - 4/20/12. We checked out on 4/21 not realizing that my 2 year old had stashed her Leappad laptop under the bed. Couple of hours into our seven hour drive back home, she asked for her toy. That is when we realized that we'd somehow left it behind. No way were we going to be able to go back to get it.
We reached home that evening and saw Ash's message waiting for us on the answering machine. I called her right back and she graciously agreed to mail it - at no charge to us.THAT, folks, is service.
We stayed in #1 which didn't have a kitchen since that room was closest available to the parking and the common room.
Although there was some noise from the highway, it really wasn't much as the traffic seemed to dwindle substantially at night. Ash gave us the key to the common room so that we could heat up milk for our toddler in the microwave anytime at night.
The room is your basic motel room, but nicely done, very clean and comfortable. The #1 has a small stand up shower. It does not have a tub. Water was hot the shower flows nice and strong. The gas heater worked fine when the storm that came up over the area on Friday drove temperatures down.
It is nicely located, about couple of miles from the Joshua Tree NP entrance.
We enjoyed our stay. It is a nice value for the money you pay.
U2 stayed here (twentyfive years ago this year) you should too :)

Room Tip: Not all rooms have kitchen/microwave/refrigerator. But the common room has both a refrigerator and microwave for guest use.

We had another fun week here @ the Harmony Motel in Twenty Nine Palms. It’s right near Joshua Tree National Park just north of the main part of town. After our daily excursions, we all congregate in the protected patio for snacks and beverages before dinner. There were more than 20 of us this year, some ate at restaurants and some fixed meals in our kitchens. There’s beautiful views of the mountains on the east side of the park and the desert landscape is all around. At dawn, having coffee outside on the patio is fabulous. We can watch the sun rise in colorful skies some mornings. And, Ash, the proprietor is very responsive to our needs. She keeps the premises clean and very nice. Some of us have been coming since 2006 and we plan to return again and again.
