Disappointing. The positives were that it was clean, the owner friendly, his son more so, and other people seemed perfectly happy. There was a small indoor and outdoor pool.

We have stayed in many lovely traditional, sometimes basic, Gasthofs in our time, but this fell short of the mark. The bedroom was "brown" and outdated. The shower had been built into the room, but was lit only by the two small over sink lights which meant you were showering in semi darkness and the only soap was from a dispenser fixed to the wall over the sink which was, to say the least, inconvenient.

The breakfast/dining room was an extension and you had to go outside to get to it which is unusual for a three star hotel.

Parking at the hotel was very limited, but there was parking available about 150m away.

I had a horrible experience with the personel and booking. I cannot recomend it to anybody. I booked 6 months in advance and three days before my arrival I called to get final confirmation of my stay. Mr. Steindl confirmed, thus I arrived with the whole family. Only at my arrival I have been told that my apartment is not available, in fact no room was available. Mr. Steindl proposed to stay a night in some other hotel and to move next day into another apartment (which I didn´t want). Thus I traveled 600 km back home. Although he apologized, he offered no compensation, not even a coffee. By the way the hotel seems worse in reality then on websites.

I stayed in a single room which was extremely small and in need of renovation. I didn't have chance to see a double room, so I can't comment on these. If you like noisy dogs, kids and cats - you'll love this place. To be fair, during nightime hours it was generally quiet. It appears to have good facilities, however the indoor swimming pool is small and the outdoor one nothing more than a large plunge pool. The sauna can seat around 5 adults and serves a purpose I suppose. The hotel is situated on a hill and is around 15 minutes walking time from the centre of Millstatt and only 3 minutes from the lake. The hotel lacks signage, indeed I drove past it several times whilst trying to find it, as there are no signs to announce itself and I also entered a private apartment by accident looking for the swimming pool. Breakfast is only served between 8am and 9am which is far too late. On the plus side, the owners were extremely helpful and families who are used to noise would probably enjoy it here.
