“Old world charm and fabulous location”
Reviewed 3 May 2012

Checking into the Omni saved us from one of the worst hotel experiences of my life! Husband and I were in New Orleans for the Jazz Festival ( along with 50,000 other "guests") and had booked another hotel ( which will remain anonymous). We waited for a room to become available, and gratefully accepted a vacancy. The front desk "warned" us that the room would be "small", but we were thrilled with the accommodations. The hotel held our luggage while we trekked off to the festival, and the room was ready a the end of a very hot and humid NOLA day.
The hotel is absolutely wonderful. The lobby is very European, decorated with brass fixtures and elegant floral arrangements. The staff is friendly and attentive; always eager to answer questions. The room was FINE. We had a beautiful view of the courtyard, a very comfortable bed, nice appointments, a terrific shower. The rooftop pool and bar are not to be missed. Get a drink and climb a second set of stairs to the observation deck on the roof. The view ( especially at night) is not to be missed.
An added bonus is the Omni's restaurant, The Rib Room. We had a fantastic dinner in a very beautiful setting ( white linen tablecloths and huge windows looking out to the street). The food was fresh and delicious.
I will certainly stay here, again. The location is the best one in the French Quarter! You will not be disappointed!

I stayed here with my son while visiting Tulane-wanted to stay in the French Quarter, even though Tulane was a bit far away-The room was perfect size-I upgraded to a larger room-we had comfortable beds-the room was cleaned immaculately each day-one night I was awaken by a drunk guest, but this is the price you pay for staying so close to Bourbon street-the hotel has a beautiful rooftop pool/bar-It is perfectly situated to walk to most areas of New Orleans-I will definitely stay here again when I return to my favorite city!

Room Tip: upgrade if you can to larger room

My husband and I plus friends have stayed here 5 times and this is our first choice. The first time was after Katrina. Beautiful historic hotel. Great location. Best rooftop pool bar. Yes, rooms can be small but there are other room choices available depending on what price you want to pay. All are well-appointed and I find the hotel quiet. Entire staff from the doormen who have been there a long time to housekeeping to the front desk and management etc. are welcoming and do a fine job. Any problem or issue has been handled promptly and resolved satisfactorily.

The lobby glitters as you enter, and is somewhat misleading for the room you'll have. I did not have a small room, as some others have reported, at least by NOLA standards (it was a double). The room amenities were fine, nothing exceptional. The walls are relatively thin so you will hear other guests rustling as well as housekeeping's activities. Positives: the rooftop view of the city, the short walking distance to Emeril's NOLA restaurant, and the prime French Quarter location. You also have The Rib Room in the hotel itself, but that is often too pricey or upscale for some. Overall, I recommend the Omni Royal Orleans and enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated, courtyard room for a quieter stay.

We've stayed in this Omni a few times and love it every time.

Negatives:
- Rooms are small. It's in the French Quarter, all rooms will be small. This isn't really a big deal.
- It can get a little pricey compared to others and you have to book pretty well in advance to get your room.

Positives:
- Location, location, location. This is a great spot in the quarter that is in walking distance to just about anything you might want to see or do in that area. Great shopping/antiquing very near.
- Rooftop pool and bar cannot be beat in the quarter. The bar service is always friendly and helpful and the pool is fantastic. Comes complete with a quarter view and full locker rooms.
- Staff. Staff is always very helpful, the concierge is very honest and goes out of her way to help.

If we're going to the Quarter, this is where we stay.
