“Nice Convention Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2012

Stayed at the New Orleans Marriott for 3 days with 2 coworkers for a conference. There were 3 of us in the room, so they kindly upgraded us to a large corner room on the 40th floor with 2 walls of windows overlooking Canal St and the French Quarter. It's location on the outer fringe of the French Quarter makes it convenient to everything with easy access to the Streetcars and Bourbon Street.

The hotel itself was very crowded and the elevators were a nightmare, but the rooms were spacious and clean with comfortable beds and decent toiletries. Even the rollaway was a nice size and very comfy!

We ate at the hotel's bar downstairs a few times, it was a fun place to gather at the end of the night or to meet up to go out. The food was good and moderately priced.

Probably not ideal for couples or families, as it is geared towards business travelers and conferences.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are very spacious, have fabulous views, and are only a few dollars more per night! Ask...

We booked this Marriott through Harrah's so we got a better deal on the room. If you are a total rewards member I highly suggest checking out harrahs.com before booking your room to check their rates. This location is perfect!! Walking distance to everything you want to do in NOLA. Bourbon St is just 2 small blocks up, the casino is a block over, the river and jackson square just a few blocks down. And there are literally hundreds of restaurants within a 5 minute walk. The hotel is very beautiful inside, very clean and incredibly modern in decor. Our room was very nice, comfortable bedding, flat screen tv, marble counters in bathroom, and overlooking the pool (which looked great but we didn't have time to check out unfortunately). It was very quiet as well, we didn't hear anything from the hall or other rooms. The toiletries in the bathroom were Bath and Body Works, so very nice stuff. Housekeeping was very friendly and prompt when I called to ask for several 'non-feather' pillows. There is a starbucks and gift shop in the lobby, and the giftshop has many grab and go items for breakfast like fresh fruit, yogurt, etc which was incredibly convenient. The hotel was sold out for the weekend and was hosting several conferences but it never felt like it (except the elevators, see below), it's a very large hotel. The concierge staff was very friendly and helpful both in handling our luggage on checkin and checkout, and helping us get dinner reservations and a taxi to the airport.

There were only 2 things holding me back from a 5-star rating. The elevator system is ridiculous. They say it's very modern and efficient but we waiting FOREVER for elevators every single time, it was so inconvenient. You have to push your desired floor on a panel outside the elevator and it assigns you to a specific elevator car. So you have to stand and wait on your particular elevator to arrive. Seems to be much longer than necessary. The other issue was one day we didn't not leave our room until around 1pm (suffering from too much bourbon st). We removed the do not disturb sign from our door when we went out and noticed the housekeeping staff still working on rooms on our floor. So we were very surprised to return to our room that night to find we had not had any services. We called down just to inquire and they asked if we needed anything specific, if not our room would be serviced again in the morning.

The hotel experience we had was good: clean, quiet room, very good view of the city and friendly stuff. The only thing that surprised me for the hotel of this level is that it didn't have free wi-fi in the room, you'd have to purchase 1 day usage for $14. They had free access in the lobby for 4 hours, but then you'd have to log in again for another 4 hours and I found out about that at the check out only. Must give hotel a credit however, they refunded the internet charge, but still not having to go through the hassle would be nice for anyone.

Room Tip: if you can, choose a corner room: quieter and a great view.

Great location, price of rooms were decent was not too expensive. Pretty clean overall. But our room shower would not stop dripping water which was annoying cause you can hear it all night. Had repair maintenance come in to fix it but he told us he could not fix it nor could the previous maintenance guy. Could not change rooms cuz of max capacity. Also our room was next to the elevators so it was also kinda noisy. If u do not plan on staying in room often then it might be ok cuz the location is good. But they need to work on their maintenance.
