My boyfriend and I stayed with Kevin and Wendy for a night while looking to buy homes in Algiers Point this past weekend. The home was spacious yet cozy and Kevin and Wendy were gracious and welcoming and a wealth of information. We can’t wait to go back again!!! The neighborhood is a gem and only a 5 minute ferry ride into downtown.

We loved Toute de Suite and One Stone for lunch and coffee. Definitely recommend the entire experience!!!

Spent 4 nights here . Kevin was the ideal host and the location is perfect.
Access to downtown New Orleans by ferry and escape from New Orleans to the tranquility of Algiers Point ( 5min and 1$ each way). Ferry 2 min walk from the "house".
Friendly coffee shop, "british" pub and two easy going restaurants between ferry and "house". It has it all!

Room Tip: three rooms . All good.

After considerable research, three couples from Hamilton, ON decided to stay at "The House of the Rising Sun at Algiers Point. This proved to be the best choice we could have made. Algiers Point (Algiers is the second oldest settled part of New Orleans) is situated immediately across the Mississippi from downtown New Orleans. Pedestrian access is by a frequently running passenger ferry which costs seniors a dollar per crossing. A cab ride which loops up and around and over the Mississippi Bridge will run you about $25.00) The B&B is a five minute walk from the ferry and is in a safe, attractive neighbourhood of lovely homes and friendly people. There is an authentic English Pub just up the street with a wide selection of good domestic and imported beer on tap, as well as some decent eateries close by.
Your hosts are normally Kevin, Wendy and Boudin (The Wonder Dog), but on this occasion Wendy was out of town on business. Kevin is an ex-pat Brit who has lived in New Orleans for a number of years and has immersed himself in the great history of his chosen area and serves a president of the local historical society wherein he has submitted many writings, has created a brochure for an in-depth walking tour and worked on erecting a stature in honour of the late jazz great, Louis Armstrong, which greets travellers disembarking from the Thomas Jefferson Ferry Boat. If you go to the web page for the B&B, there is a ton of information on a wide range of topics, which Kevin has penned.
"The House of the Rising Sun" is a double shot-gun house, with a treasure trove of eclectic items of decor which represents the lifestyle and interests of the owners and creates a comfortable, laid-back, funky atmosphere that is so easy to sink into and totally relax while spending time there.
Two of the bedrooms have comfortable King beds, while the other is a Queen. One King and the Queen are ensuite, while the other King has its own bathroom just down the hall.
There is a lovely sitting room as well as a back deck or porch overlooking the garden.
Kevin is most welcoming and very helpful with whatever information you may require. He is well known "down at pub" and if you are staying at the B&B you are immediately a good friend to all in the pub.
You can pick many great places in The Garden District or The French Quarter, but this place is different in that within a short boat ride, you find yourself in a totally different environment that is more like a small town, rather than the heart of a major city such as New Orleans.
Kevin serves a simple but nice breakfast of fruit, cereal, yogurt, croissants, cheese, juice, coffee or tea and while it is the same thing every day, which may not be to some people's liking, we generally have pretty much the same thing on a repeat basis at home, so no problem here!
Given you are cool with everything written above, I would highly and enthusiastically recommend "The House of the Rising Sun" as a really special place to stay and it would appear by the overall rankings registered on this site that the vast majority of those who have shared the experience are in total agreement!

Room Tip: The three rooms are all good.

I have recently returned from another holiday in New Orleans having stayed on the last few occasions at the House of the Rising Sun. Once again the time spent there, and in the surrounding area, was excellent and I can highly recommend this as the place to stay for anyone who is either visiting New Orleans for the first time or looking for a base that is a little removed from the hustle and bustle of the tourist part of the city. The half-hourly ferry service places the attractions of the French Quarter within easy reach whereas the pleasant neighbourhood offers a welcome chance to relax occasionally.

Keven and Wendy are great hosts offering a wealth of local information and advice, clean comfortable digs, Wi-Fi, curios++ all within easy access to the city attractions via a short $2 ferry ride.

Located in a safe, friendly and picturesque neighbourhood, there is also a coffee shop, nice pizza restaurant/bar and British style pub within a block or two.

Travellers themselves, Kevin and Wendy understand life on the road and even accommodated us with a small amount of washing. In short, brilliant stay,
